Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Baseball Research department by providing analyses, tools, and recommendations that improve decision-making processes for all parts of Baseball Operations, including Amateur Scouting, International Scouting, Advance Scouting, Player Development, Player Personnel, and Sports Science.
  • Process, clean, and verify integrity of data used for analyses. Evaluate and build statistical models.
  • Administrative support also expected.

Qualifications

Required:

  • College Senior or postgraduate only
  • Knowledge of statistics (e.g. probability, linear regression, Bayesian inference), statistical programs (e.g. R, Python, MATLAB), and relational databases (e.g. SQL).
  • Must have a solid understanding of baseball
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience building generalized linear models and/or machine learning models using statistical computing software
  • Ability to lift items weighing as much as 35 pounds

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with baseball technology such as ball tracking systems (e.g. Hawk-Eye, Trackman, Raposodo), motion capture (e.g. Simi, KinaTrax, 4D Motion, Hawk-Eye), and training tools (e.g. Blast, Hittrax).
  • Spanish proficiency
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Math, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Biomechanics, or Kinesiology

Time Commitment: February 2022 through October 2022

Fellow, Baseball Technology

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage video and technology at a Twins affiliate (Fort Myers, Wichita, Cedar Rapids, or Major League)
  • Support Baseball Operations departments including, but not limited to, Minor and Major League Video, Player Development, and Research and Development
  • Assist Major and Minor League Video Coordinators during Spring Training, collecting player video and data, providing assistance to minor league staff, and organization and maintenance of technology over the course of the minor league season
  • Collaborate with personnel across the organization and develop skills and knowledge in many areas of the game

Qualifications

Required:

  • College Senior or postgraduate only
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle
  • Must have a solid understanding of baseball
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift items weighing as much as 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and comfort driving in the Twin Cities metro area
  • Ability to lift items weighing as much as 50 pounds

Preferred:

  • Spanish proficiency
  • Understanding of scouting and familiarity with baseball technology such as ball tracking systems (e.g. Hawk-Eye, Trackman, Raposodo), motion capture (e.g. Simi, KinaTrax, 4D Motion, Hawk-Eye), and training tools (e.g. Blast, Hittrax).

Fellow, Player Development

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Support the Player Development Department in all areas, including technology set up and data collection, data entry, various administrative tasks, airport transportation, filing, and other assigned projects.
  • Administrative support is expected throughout the fellowship, however, there is ample opportunity for areas of personal interest/development through self-determined projects and access to Player Development personnel, information, and systems

Qualifications

Required:

  • College Senior or postgraduate only
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have a solid understanding of baseball
  • Spanish Proficiency is preferred
  • Ability to lift items weighing as much as 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
