BP-Kings is Back

by Nate Silver

Last year’s Scoresheet Baseball-based “celebrity” fantasy league, dubbed “BP-Kings” league after participants King Kaufman and Peter King, is returning for a second season. BP will once again make a donation to the charity of the winner’s choosing, but — let’s be honest here — we’re hoping to have a lot of fun and settle a few arguments along the way.

While Dave Cokin tries to defend his AL Crown, we have a few changes in store. Firstly, Kings will be switching over to a keeper format, allowing Kevin Goldstein and PECOTA to take their prospect mettle to the mat. Secondly, we’re moving to unique a 24-team, split AL/NL format that allows interleague trading, but no interleague play until the World Series (just like the good ol’ days).

Confirmed participants include:

  • Rico Brogna, former Major League player
  • Albert Chen and Jacob Luft, SI.com
  • Dave Cokin, ESPN-920, Las Vegas
  • Jeff Erickson, Rotowire.com
  • Kevin Goldstein, Baseball Prospectus
  • Rany Jazayerli, Baseball Prospectus
  • Dave Kaplan and Mike Ferrin, WGN
  • King Kaufman, Salon.com
  • Eric Karabell, ESPN Fantasy
  • Peter King, Sports Illustrated and HBO
  • Will Leitch, Deadspin
  • Josh Levin, Slate.com
  • Jeff Ma, ProTrade
  • Ben Murphy, Baseball Prospectus
  • Rob Neyer, ESPN.com
  • Jeff Passan, Yahoo! Sports
  • John Perrotto, Pirates beat writer for the Beaver County Times
  • Cory Schwartz and Mike Siano, MLB.com
  • Joe Sheehan, Baseball Prospectus
  • Nate Silver, Baseball Prospectus
  • Jenn Sterger, SI.com and jennsterger.com
  • Sam Walker and Nando DiFino, Wall Street Journal and Fantasyland
  • An anonymous executive of a Major League front office

Look for more articles and updates forthcoming from league commissioner Ben Murphy as the draft gets underway.
