Spring Training Stats Don't Count - But Here They Are

by Rob McQuown

Not that anyone at Baseball Prospectus would be so shortsighted as to look at spring training stats when preparing for an important fantasy draft, but, um, connecting the Team Tracker to a sortable/searchable display of Spring Training statistics might have come out of such an endeavor.

There's a (temporary) link on the Team Tracker page, which takes you to the Spring Training stats: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/fantasy/tt/spring/

As with the Scoresheet Draft Aid, you can display the top prospects ratings at the top by clicking on "(show)", or sort the spring training stats on a variety of metrics.  EstTAv isn't really TAv, but a formula which does a reasonable approximation, based on on-base percentage and slugging percentage.  The images included here show all the AL players, which I entered into a Team Tracker team called "scratch2".

Enjoy!

Good reminder that there's no projection for Yu Darvish yet. Unless you expect him to take over the "Mr. Zero" title from Takashi Saito.

That's just something quirky about the spring stats and him - he's been in the Depth Charts for weeks. I checked when I noticed he was missing on the spring stats, too.

Thanks for the tool Rob, I've been using it a lot.

One piece of feedback I'd give is I'd like to see whether people bat or pitch right/lefthanded/switch etc on the draft aid. Also, is there a TAV or some similar kind of split vs RHB and LHB for pitchers?

Good idea - Added * for lefties, and # for switch-hitters to both the Spring stats and the Scoresheet Draft Aid.

Scoresheet doesn't have a platoon factor for pitchers. The R-TAv' and L-TAv' for batters on the Draft Aid are based on the Scoresheet game platoon splits. For historical (as opposed to projected) values, TAv against is listed vsL and vsR for pitchers on the Statistics page report, e.g. http://bbp.cx/r/992228

Much appreciated, thanks for adding it.

Also, thanks for adding the clarification on platoons. I assume R-TAv/L-TAv for hitters gets updated each week as scoresheet games complete, right?

These are derived from the TAv' projections, which should be based on "Rest of Season" PECOTA projections, which will be updated daily, but I'll have to confirm this. They don't take into account any of the events in the various Scoresheet leagues themselves.

Ohhh. As a SSSS (Small Sample Size Sucker), I love this. Thank you, from the protector of Ryan Raburn.
