Honorable mention for Pat Burrell, added by the Giants in June?

Am I reading correctly that he's had a 16.6 VORP?

Burrell wasn't included in this list because he signed a minor league deal with the Giants - he was not traded. I added Daniel Hudson, who has been phenomenal since landing in Arizona. Did the White Sox give up on Hudson too early?

Good job on adding Hudson. Still can't understand why you trade a minor league starter with K rates like that just for the right to pay Jackson $8.5 million next year.

It makes no sense, really...other than thinking that Kenny Williams had every intention on shipping him to Washington for Adam Dunn - but ended up not getting that done.

Jackson was supposed to get flipped for Dunn but Washington had second thoughts.

Ted Lilly was almost no help for the Dodgers. However, he just may be a valuable addition in 2011. Actually, not much would have helped the Dodgers unless Kemp and Ethier returned to being great players, as they were earlier in the season.

I knew Lee had his struggles of late but never thought it was that bad. Nice article, Jesse.

Oswalt of course. Who else has had an impact on a playoff race?

Jake Westbrook impacted a playoff race. He just didn't impact it enough, and Pedro Feliz also "impacted" that race, to the point that Westbrook's impact didn't matter.

I'd still go with Oz, though. Nice to see he still has some gas in the tank, even if he's pitching for a team I don't like. He deserves better than he got from Houston.

Notable by their absence --- Alex Gonzalez and I-know-he-didn't-join-in-July-but-still-want-to-complain-about-him Derek Lee.

Added Gonzalez. I'm interested to see if he stays with Atlanta.

I'm pretty sure they'll exercise his option. It's really cheap, and the SS market isn't exactly booming. The other option would be starting Infante at SS, but then what do you do for Chipper insurance? Seems much simpler to exercise Gonzalez's option and maybe spot him with Infante from time to time.

I believe Kenny Williams is a horrible judge of talent when it comes to exchanging propects for major leaguers. He seems intent on trading his #1 prospects for major leaguers of similar ability or less with huge price tags. He lucked out getting some legs from Gavin Floyd and Thome but neither brought the Sox a championship and neither did Vasquez. If I could ask KW a question it would be: Do you accept the initial request from the potential trade partner every time or do you even attempt to negotiate? It seems that if he negotiated he would not have to give up all the talent he has in the deals for Peavy and Jackson. Even trading Vasquez for what he got in return was not much. Giving up Link and Ely for Pierre? Really, this is a major league GM? He struck gold with Rios but at what cost?

Jorge Cantu has been terrible for Texas.

Re: Cliff Lee - he was absolutely instrumental in helping the Rangers when he first came over...Stats without context can be misleading at times - Lee tried pitching through a bad back and had two or three blow-up games stat wise.

What Lee did do when he came over was help the Rangers win 4 or 5 one run games they would not have won with Scott Feldman or Rich Harden getting those rotation starts.

Also what Cliff Lee did do - that won't show up in stats anywhere - was go deep in every start he pitched in with complete games and 8 inning outings littered through his past performances allowing the bullpen to rest and be utilized when other Ranger starters (Colby Lewis, Tommy Hunter, CJ etc...) would hit the proverbial wall in their 6th and 7th inning with regularity.

Justin Smoak was a high price to pay - but the Rangers have a chance to get their money's worth from Cliff Lee especially if they can ink the Arkansas native to a deal to anchor their staff for a few years.

On the other hand Jorge Cantu? ... not so much
