Of course, Gil Meche normally isn’t anybody’s idea of an impact free agent - one co-worker of a BPer quipped, “This is like a family on welfare buying a plasma TV that doesn’t work” - but given that this deal is likely for more than the entire Kansas City payroll last season, it’s at least a sign that K.C. is willing to spend big, if not necessarily wisely.
