  • Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez crushed a solo home run.

  • Cubs SP Jake Arrieta struggled, allowing four runs on six hits over five innings.

  • Rockies SP Juan Nicasio pitched six scoreless innings and struck out nine.
  • Giants SP Barry Zito was tagged for five runs in four innings.

  • Phillies SP Cliff Lee pitched eight innings of one-run ball, striking out seven.
  • Mets SP Zach Wheeler lost despite allowing just two runs in 6 2/3 innings.
  • Phillies 3B Cody Asche tripled to drive in both of the lone runs.
  • Mets 2B Daniel Murphy went 0-for-4 and is hitting .227 in 97 at-bats this month.
(74-58) Reds - 6 at 8 - Cardinals (77-54)
  • Cardinals 1B Allen Craig hit his first career grand slam off J.J. Hoover.
  • Cardinals SP Tyler Lyons yielded four runs -- one earned -- in five innings.
  • Cardinals RP Edward Mujica pitched a perfect ninth for his 35th save.
  • Reds SP Mike Leake was charged with five runs in 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision.
  • Reds OF Jay Bruce went 2-for-4 and smacked his 25th homer.
American League:

(73-57) Athletics - 8 at 6 - Tigers (77-54)
  • Athletics OF Coco Crisp went 3-for-6 with a homer, a double and two RBI.
  • Inserted right into the starting lineup, Athletics 1B Daric Barton went 2-for-5 with a couple of RBI.
  • Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera hit home run No. 43.
  • Tigers DH Victor Martinez went 4-for-5 and hit his 11th homer.
(69-62) Yankees - 2 at 5 - Blue Jays (59-73)
  • Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey yielded two runs -- one earned -- in 6 1/3 innings and struck out six.
  • Yankees SP Phil Hughes gave up five runs -- four earned -- in 4 2/3 innings.
  • After getting Sunday off, Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez returned to the starting lineup and homered off R.A. Dickey.
  • Yankees SS Derek Jeter went 0-for-3 with a walk in his return to the lineup.
(44-86) Astros - 10 at 8 - White Sox (54-76)
  • Astros OF Chris Carter had a two-run homer in the fifth, an RBI single in the seventh and a solo homer in the ninth.
  • Astros SP Jordan Lyles struck out the only batter he faced to pick up a save.
  • White Sox SP Andre Rienzo surrendered seven runs -- five earned -- in six innings.
  • After coming into a tie game, White Sox RP Addison Reed gave up back-to-back homers in the ninth to take a loss.
  • White Sox 1B Adam Dunn reached 30 homers for the ninth time in his career.

  • Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski hit a three-run homer.

  • Phillies purchased the contract of INF Pete Orr from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
  • Phillies placed OF Casper Wells on the 15-day disabled list with vision complications.
  • Padres optioned OF Jaff Decker to Triple-A Tucson.
  • Padres optioned RHP Brad Brach to Triple-A Tucson.
  • Padres recalled RHP Anthony Bass from Triple-A Tucson.
  • Padres purchased the contract of OF Reymond Fuentes from Triple-A Tucson.

  • Mets general manager Sandy Alderson confirmed Monday afternoon that SP Matt Harvey has a partial UCL tear in his right elbow.
  • Rockies C Yorvit Torrealba will not return from the 7-day concussion disabled list when first eligible.
  • Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (elbow) is scheduled to make a rehab start on Tuesday at Triple-A Colorado Springs.
  • Padres OF Kyle Blanks (heel) will play the outfield in a rehab game Monday night at Triple-A Tucson.
  • Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt has been diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
  • Dodgers RP Shawn Tolleson (back) has halted his rehab assignment due to a left hip injury.
  • Rockies OF Dexter Fowler has been diagnosed with a left lateral knee bruise.
  • Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) began a throwing program Monday.
  • Cardinals C Tony Cruz (forearm) will not return from the disabled list on Friday, the first day he's eligible.
  • Reds RP Sean Marshall (shoulder) is slated to increase the distance and intensity of his throwing this week.
  • A follow-up exam Monday on Mets RP Bobby Parnell's neck showed continued improvement.

  • Tigers RP Octavio Dotel (elbow) has shifted his minor league rehab assignment to Triple-A Toledo.
  • Red Sox SP Alfredo Aceves (oblique) threw a shutout frame in a Gulf Coast League game on Monday afternoon.
  • Red Sox RP Daniel Bard (abdomen) threw a scoreless inning of relief on Monday afternoon in the Gulf Coast League.
  • Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) is scheduled to rejoin the Rays' starting rotation on September 3.
  • Mariners C Mike Zunino (hand) impressed manager Eric Wedge in his first batting practice session Saturday.
  • Rangers SP Neftali Feliz (elbow, triceps) will be activated from the disabled list on Sunday or Monday.
  • Rangers DH Lance Berkman (hip, knee) is expected to be activated on September 1.
  • Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said that OF Colby Rasmus suffered a "minor setback" Monday with his left oblique injury.
  • Blue Jays RP Dustin McGowan (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday.
  • Blue Jays RP Steve Delabar (shoulder) is scheduled to throw in a rehab game on Wednesday.
  • Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson won't throw for two weeks after Dr. James Andrews confirmed the diagnosis of a right forearm strain.
  • The Athletics hope that OF Josh Reddick will be able to rehab his right wrist injury.
  • Athletics manager Bob Melvin indicated Monday that SP Brett Anderson (foot) will likely return in a relief role.
  • The Athletics are hopeful that SP Bartolo Colon (groin) will return from the disabled list to start Thursday against the Tigers.
  • Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Monday that RP Brett Cecil will rest for a couple of days due to shoulder soreness.
  • Tigers C Alex Avila (concussion) will catch seven innings with Triple-A Toledo on Monday before being reevaluated.

National League:

  • Orioles outfield prospect Dariel Alvarez has been promoted from High-A Fredrick to Double-A Bowie.
  • Rockies prospect RHP Jonathan Gray allowed two hits with eight strikeouts over five scoreless innings on Sunday for High-A Modesto.
  • Mets RP Carlos Torres will take the place of Matt Harvey (elbow) in the rotation Thursday against the Phillies.
  • Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong was held out of the starting lineup for a second straight game Monday against the Reds.
American League:
  • Astros SP Mark Appel has been shut down for the year.
  • Rangers prospect RHP Luke Jackson was sharp once again on Sunday for Double-A Frisco, allowing one earned run on three hits and a walk over five innings with seven strikeouts.
  • FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that Kendrys Morales has been claimed on waivers by an unknown team.
  • Mariners manager Eric Wedge said that SP Taijuan Walker is one of the candidates to start on Friday in Houston.
