  • Giants SP Matt Cain was shelled for nine runs over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Cardinals.

  • Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright allowed two runs over seven innings in Sunday's 14-3 win over the Giants.

  • Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen went 1-for-4 with two RBI in a loss to the Dodgers

  • Dodgers SP Hyun-Jin Ryu got his first career win in his start against the Pirates.

  • Padres SP Edinson Volquez allowed four runs on nine hits over six innings in a loss to the Rockies

  • Rockies OF Dexter Fowler went 2-for-5 with a home run in a win over the Padres.

  • Twins recalled LHP Pedro Hernandez from Triple-A Rochester.

  • Twins placed RHP Cole De Vries on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30, with a right forearm strain.

Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Cardinals 3B David Freese (back) has been cleared for Monday's home opener against the Reds.

  • Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) has resumed a throwing program.

  • Brewers SS Jean Segura left Sunday's game in the fifth inning with a bruised left quad.

  • Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that, in a best-case scenario, SP Shaun Marcum (neck) would return in mid- to late-April.

  • X-rays on Pirates RP Jeanmar Gomez's ribs came back clean.

  • There is no timetable for when Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) will resume throwing off a mound.

  • Pirates RP Jose Contreras (elbow) will throw two innings in an extended spring training game on Wednesday.

  • Pirates SP Francisco Liriano (arm) will throw a two-inning simulated game on Wednesday.

  • Pirates SP Charlie Morton (elbow) will throw two innings in an extended spring training game on Monday.

  • Cubs 2B Darwin Barney hopes to have the stitches in his left knee removed on Monday.

  • RP Jason Motte (elbow) will be re-evaluated during the middle of the Cardinals' April 8-14 home stand.

  • X-rays to A's SP Brett Anderson's left thumb were negative.

  • A's OF Josh Reddick suffered a sprained right wrist in Sunday's game against the Astros.

  • Red Sox DH David Ortiz (heels) could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday.

  • Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (concussion) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.

  • Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie (rib cage) threw from 120 feet, hit off a tee and soft toss, took grounders and ran sprints on Saturday.

  • Rays SP Jeff Niemann will have his right shoulder re-evaluated on Monday.

  • FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Red Sox, Twins, and Astros have all expressed interest in trading for Rockies RP Aaron Harang.

  • Giants RP Guillermo Mota is considering signing a minor-league deal with the Orioles.

  • Cubs RP Carlos Marmol has been replaced by Kyuji Fujikawa as the Cubs' closer.

American League:

  • Royals manager Ned Yost said RP Greg Holland remains the team's closer following Saturday's blown save.

This is in addition to all the other features and articles we publish. Nothing will be removed or cut back. All of John Perrotto's notes and the scouting team's reports will remain part of their respective articles. They will not be published on the Daily Roundup. The daily reports are just quick shots of news and notes.
