  • Phillies SP Cliff Lee pitched two-hit ball for eight innings and combined with RP Jonathan Papelbon on a shutout of the Braves.
  • Braves SP Kris Medlen yielded two runs in five innings in a loss to the Phillies.

  • Braves OF B.J. Upton went 0-for-3 to finish the series against the Phillies 0-for-11 with seven strikeouts.

  • Padres SP Eric Stults tossed five shutout frames in the club's 2-1 win over the Mets.

  • Mets SP Dillon Gee allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings in a tough-luck loss to the Padres.

  • RP Aroldis Chapman notched his first save of 2013 in the Reds' 5-4 defeat of the Angels.
  • Reds SP Bronson Arroyo yielded three earned runs over six innings Thursday in a victory over the Angels.

  • SP Travis Wood tossed six scoreless innings in the Cubs' 3-2 victory over the Pirates.

  • Cubs RP Carlos Marmol yielded two earned runs in the ninth inning against the Pirates but still came away with the save.

  • Pirates SP James McDonald limited the Cubs to one earned run over seven innings in a loss. 

American League:

  • J.P. Arencibia went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo homers in leading the Blue Jays to a 10-8 win over the Indians.
  • Mark Buehrle struggled through 5 1/3 innings in his Blue Jays debut, giving up six runs to the Indians.

  • Blue Jays RP Casey Janssen turned in a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season against the Indians.

  • Indians SP Brett Myers was lit up for four homers and seven runs in five innings by the Blue Jays.

  • Indians C Carlos Santana went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI against the Blue Jays.

  • Yankees SP Andy Pettitte pitched eight innings of one-run ball in a 4-2 win over the Red Sox.

  • Yankees RP Mariano Rivera gave up a run in his 2013 debut, but he did pick up the save after entering a 4-1 game against the Red Sox.
  • SP Ryan Dempster took a loss in his Red Sox debut after giving up three runs in five innings against the Yankees.

  • Yankees OF Brett Gardner went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk versus the Red Sox.

  • Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez limited the Rays to two runs over 6 1/3 innings in the club's 6-3 victory.

  • Orioles RP Jim Johnson notched his second save of the season with a scoreless inning against the Rays.

  • SP Roberto Hernandez was shaky in his debut with the Rays, yielding four runs on six hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Orioles.

  • Orioles 1B Chris Davis continued to torch the Rays' pitching staff, hitting a two-RBI double and a two-run homer in the win.

  • Rays 3B Evan Longoria went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored in the team's loss to the Orioles.

  • Athletics SP A.J. Griffin held the Mariners to two runs over six innings in the club's 8-2 victory.

  • Mariners SP Brandon Maurer struggled in his major league debut, allowing six runs over six frames in a loss to the Athletics.

  • Athletics OF Josh Reddick hit a two-run double and ripped a two-run homer in the club's win over the Mariners.

  • Athletics acquired OF Jake Goebbert from the Astros in exchange for LHP Travis Blackley.

  • Indians SP Trevor Bauer will be called up from Triple-A Columbus to start Saturday against the Rays.

  • Yankees released RHP David Aardsma.

  • Athletics sent 1B Daric Barton outright to Triple-A Sacramento.

  • Orioles claimed RHP Josh Stinson off waivers from the Athletics; optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk.

  • White Sox signed OF Stefan Gartrell to a minor league contract.

  • White Sox signed INF Tyler Greene to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Charlotte.

  • Tigers signed RHP Jose Valverde to a minor league contract.

Injury Updates:

National League:

  • Cardinals 3B David Freese's (back) rehab assignment has been delayed due to a rainout at Triple-A Memphis.

  • Mets SP Shaun Marcum was diagnosed with nerve inflammation in his neck following an MRI on Thursday.

  • Marlins 1B Casey Kotchman (hamstring) will be placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday.

  • Reds RP Sean Marshall has been unavailable the past three games because of minor left shoulder fatigue.

American League:
  • Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (ankle) said after Thursday's game that he doesn't expect to miss any time.

  • Yankees SP Hiroki Kuroda (finger) won't be cleared to make his next start until he tries to throw a bullpen session Friday.

  • Orioles 2B Brian Roberts said after Thursday's game that he had to exit after feeling something in the bottom of his right hamstring.

  • Indians placed LHP Scott Kazmir on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 2, with a right rib cage strain.

  • Orioles transferred LHP Tsuyoshi Wada from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

  • Orioles SP Dylan Bundy has been placed on the 7-day minor league disabled list with right forearm stiffness.

  • Orioles SP Steve Johnson (lat) played long toss on Wednesday.

  • Orioles 3B Wilson Betemit underwent arthroscopic surgery Wednesday on his injured right knee.

  • Angels RP Ryan Madson (elbow) played catch Thursday morning.

Notes and Rumors:

National League:

  • SP Chris Young will earn a prorated $2 million if the Nationals call him up, with a possible total of $4.7 million in incentives.

  • MLB.com's Adam McCalvy writes that Brewers RP Jim Henderson is being viewed as the Brewers' "Plan B" at closer if current closer John Axford continues to struggle.

American League:

  • Royals manager Ned Yost said Thursday that DH Billy Butler will be in the lineup for all three games of the weekend series in Philadelphia.

  • Athletics 1B Brandon Moss left Thursday's game early in order to be with his wife after she went into labor.

  • FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Vladimir Guerrero has signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.

This is good information.

In case you're looking for feedback, I'd prefer K/BB data on the starting pitchers where that might indicate a different conclusion than ERA does. For example, Roberto Hernandez (Fausto Carmona) had 7 K / 2 BB, which points to a different conclusion than what you wrote. I realize you're trying to keep each comment succinct, but I think there's too little detail in the pitching summaries.
