Aaron Cook and .8 Per Nine

by Ben Lindbergh

Aaron Cook's 2012 Three True Outcome rates, after four starts and 22 2/3 innings:

Stat

Rate

Grade

BB/9

0.8

VERY GOOD!

HR/9

0.8

GOOD

K/9

0.8

VERY BAD!

If at some point this season the Yankees call up Russell Branyan or Jack Cust from Triple-A, and one of those players hits against Cook, True Outcome will meet anti-True Outcome. And then this will happen:

In case you're curious: Aaron Cook has a 3.73 FIP.

H/T to Red Sox savant Marc Normandin for bringing this striking symmetry to my attention.

Terry Ryan just found a SP to trade for. Hell, that would qualify him for #3 starter.

How about Adam Dunn? For this season, his true outcomes as a share of plate appearances must be close to the all-time record. That's a match up that will probably happen shortly.

After five starts and 29 2/3 innings pitched, Cook's rates are now 0.6, 0.6, and 0.6.
