It also looks like Troy Tulowitzki re-injured his groin in a rehab game last night. He has two AB (homer and a single off of Trevor Bauer!) but after the single in the third inning he took himself out. Hopefully nothing too serious.

Whoops, that was stupid. Maybe I should read the entire article before basically repeating what you said on the Tulowitzki page.

What do the "return" dates signify? Many of them are in the past, so what are the actual estimated return dates for these players? And could you include a small "key" for these column headings? Thanks!

The "return dates" takes the calculated missed time based on historical data and then adds it to the day they were placed on the DL. It's something we're working on fine tuning.

Alan Farina, Blue Jays, has begun his rehab.

Yeah I saw that the other day and he's about a year out from surgery now so his rehab appears to be right on schedule. He could end up being activated some time in July. He was hit pretty hard the first time so he's probably going to need the full 30-day period.

So what is the label for players like Ellsbury who appear to take much longer than average to recover from injuries? First it's losing almost an entire season to cracked ribs, now closing in on three months for a shoulder injury that your stats claim is a 15-day injury.

It's not clear he gets injured more often than average, but his recovery time from these injuries seems excessive.

Well some players do take longer to heal than others and medicine hasn't cracked the code as to predict which ones they will be.

I wish I had a better answer than simply, I don't know why Ellsbury takes longer. It might have something to do with the degree of injury to the ligaments and capsule. Maybe the Red Sox are hiding other findings like a small labrum tear. Or he could just be that random person who takes longer to heal from injuries.

We just don't know why yet.

Damn, I missed that one. Thanks for pointing it out.
