Gentle-readers:
Have you noticed how this year both the Christmas and New Year's holidays had a frustrating way of falling purely on weekends? We sure did. As we labored not only on this site, but on our three new book projects (Baseball Prospectus 2012, Extra Innings: More Baseball Between the Numbers, and the just-released Best of Baseball Prospectus two-volume set), we were longing for a lengthy winter vacation, just like the ones we used to know.
Alas, the calendar did not allow us even a single extra day. Well, darn it, we're taking one anyway. On Monday, your gang of indefatigable BPers will be sleeping off their spiked eggnog, but we will be back with our usual full slate of horsehide merriment on Tuesday the 27th as we gear up for the aforementioned publications as well as new BP.com offerings in the virginal, unsoiled year to come. Stay tuned for further announcements from myself and our master and commander Jolly Joe Hamrahi (I drew him in Secret Santa this year and I think it best to break the $20 spending limit–Joe, keep an eye on the mail for your authentic Fabergé Egg–gotta stay in good with the boss). We plan on 2012 being our best year yet–by Babe Ruth's Bony Bat, we swear it!
On that note, I go to dream of Sugar Plums dancing in my head; I haven't seen Sugar Plums dance since burlesque went out, but it's still nice to remember her sometimes. More seriously, heartfelt best wishes for a safe, joyous, and healthy holidays from all of us to all of you. We look forward to seeing you all back here on Tuesday.

PS: Special aside to Prince Fielder: If you're going to sign, great. Just wait until Tuesday, man. Tuesday.
