Eduardo Escobar, SS, White Sox (AFL: Saguaros): 2-for-3, HR (3), 2 R, 2 RBI.

Shortstop prospects who really are shortstops are a rarity, and it's surprising the Escobar doesn't warrant more attention. The 21 year-old Venezuelan has above-average range and a plus-plus arm, and his bat started to show some signs of life in 2010, as Escobar showed a surprising ability to drive balls into the gap. In a system desperate for prospects, as a good defender with some offensive value, Escobar is the real deal.

Others Of Note:

  • Michael Burgess, OF, Nationals (AFL: Scorpions): 3-for-5, 2B, 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI. Compact, powerful outfielder saved prospect status with late-season surge; seven-game hitting streak in AFL brings him up to .310/.364/.448.
  • Maikel Cleto, RHP, Mariners (AFL: Javelinas): 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 4 K. Big power righty has plus-plus velocity; profiles better as reliever if he can find a consistent second pitch.
  • Danny Duffy, LHP, Royals (AFL: Rafters): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Being used sparingly, but opponents are just 2-for-18 against him.
  • Jarrod Dyson, OF, Royals (PR: Senadores): 2-for-5, 2B, R, K, SB. Plus-plus speed created plenty of exciting in big league stint; but can he hit?
  • Dee Gordon, SS, Dodgers (PR: Gigantes): 3-for-4, 2 2B, 3 R, SB. 9-for-17 in four games.
  • Josh Harrison, 2B, Pirates (AFL: Solar Sox): 4-for-5, 2 2B, HR (1), 5 R, 3 RBI, BB. Former Cubs (acquired in Gorzelany trade) is way undersized while lacking big tools; .300/.345/.398 line at Double-A at least proves he can hit.
  • Jeremy Jeffress, RHP, Brewers (AFL: Rafters): 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K. 0.00 ERA in 6.1 IP, but six walks; memo to Brewers: please don't turn him back into a starter.
  • Chase Lambo, OF, Pirates (AFL: Solar Sox): 3-for-6, R, 4 RBI, BB. Newer Pirate has hitting skills, but the bat is the only tools and scouts wonder if it's enough.
  • Alex Liddi, 3B, Mariners (VEN: Cardenales): 3-for-3, 2 2B, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB. Did enough at Double-A to prove that 2009 year wasn't complete High Desert fabrication; Age, inexperience, and athleticism are still on his side.
  • Jeremy Moore, OF, Angels (AFL: Solar Sox): 4-for-6, HR (2), 3 R, 3 RBI, BB, K. Intriguing outfielder has made slow and steady improvement at every level with plus speed, and potentially average power down the road.
  • Yamaico Navarro, 3B, Red Sox (DOM: Tigres): 2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB. Nine total bases in first four games; playing third base every day should increase his versatility.
  • Ben Revere, OF, Twins (AFL: Saguaros): 2-for-3, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB. Hitting .413 while 7-for-7 in the stolen base department; could be due for longer big league look next year.
  • Jerry Sands, 1B/OF, Dodgers (AFL: Desert Dogs): 2-for-4, RBI, BB, K. .484 OBP in seven games, but no home runs. Small sample size that shouldn't concern, but does need to keep raking as the bat is his ticket to the majors.
  • Josh Vitters, 3B/1B, Cubs (AFL: Solar Sox): 2-for-6, 2 2B, 2 R, RBI. He needs to stop looking like he'll really be good and start producing results; especially now that he's playing first base as well, which just might turn into a permanent move.

re: Sands, Fangraphs Bryan Smith wrote today that he has watched Sands BP sessions the last two days and he is concentrating on hitting to RF, spraying the ball all over, rather than swing for the fences.

K Law reported from the AFL and stated Vitters has become a solid defender at third.

Isn't it Andrew Lambo, and you're conflating his first name with that of Chase D'Arnaud?

Damn, I was seriously excited about a heretofore unheard of hot prospect owned by the Pirates!

Ok...excited is too strong a word.
