Charlie Cublerson, 2B, Giants (AFL: Scottsdale) 2-for-6, 2B, HR (1), 2 R, RBI, 2 K

A supplemental first-round pick in 2007, Culberson was all but off the map entering the 2010 season after spending two years at Low-A Augusta with identical 609 OPS each year. So don't be alarmed if the industry is still skeptical of Culberson after a .290/.340/.457 showing in the California League this year in a season that included 16 home runs after his previous career high was three. Has has a lot to prove, and with 10 total bases in his first two Arizona Fall League games, and he's doing it so far.

Others Of Note

Dustin Ackley, 2B, Mariners (AFL: Peoria J): 1-for-1, 2B, 2 R, RBI. Off to a great start in Arizona, but the bad news is that he jammed a finger on a fielding play. Good news? It's not considered serious.

Randall Delgado, RHP, Braves (AFL: Surprise): 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Doesn't have nearly the upside of Julio Teheran or Arodys Vizcaino, but could beat both to the big leagues.

Brandon Guyer, OF, Cubs (VEN: Aragua): 2-for-4, 2B, HR (1), 3 R, 2 RBI, BB. Cubs breakout player of the year keeps breaking out in the LVBP.

Casey Kelly, RHP, Red Sox (AFL: Peoria J): 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 3 K. Throwing strikes with plus stuff; scouting reports are far more impressive than his Double-A numbers.

Cole Kimball, RHP, Nationals (AFL Scottsdale): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Power reliever is one of the better sleepers in the system; mid-90s heat and 101 strikeouts in 78.1 innings this year.

A.J. Pollack, OF, Diamondbacks (AFL: Scottsdale): 2-for-4, 2 2B, R, RBI, BB. Like yesterday's featured player, Jared Mitchell of the White Sox, Pollack is a 2009 first-round pick who missed the entire year (elbow surgery).

Michael Taylor, OF, Athletics (AFL: Phoenix): 3-for-4, 2B, HR (2), 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, SB. After two days, this is your league MVP with 12 total bases in two games while making just three outs in nine plate appearances.

Tom Wilhelmsen, RHP, Brewers (AFL: Peoria J): 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K. At almost 27, he's one of the older players in the league, but hadn't pitched organized ball for over six years and has the velocity to be a real sleeper.

Brandon Wood, 3B, Angels (AFL: Mesa) 2-for-4, HR (1), R, RBI. Still respect him for playing here. Says a lot about the kid. He played in the big leagues nearly all year and took the assignment, while Brett Lawrie of the Brewers, on the verge of the big leagues after a year at Double-A, chose not to play this year. Talent trumps makeup, but that's not to say it doesn't matter at all.

What is it that makes Delgado's ascent to the big leagues potentially quicker than Teheran's?

Confused by the question. Like physically where? He was travelling a lot and tending bar I believe.

Randall Delgado isn't in the AFL. Heck, the Braves don't even send their players to Surprise - they go to Phoenix. Perhaps due to some laziness you didn't recognize that the R. Delgado in the box score is actually Ramon Delgado, he's in the St. Louis system.

True that Randall Delgado isn't in the AFL this year, but is there any particular reason you have to be such a jerk about it? You're really complaining that a guy who does a DAILY roundup of prospect performances throughout the season, in addition to regular full columns, is lazy???

Let's face it, that's an egregious error, and I aplogize.

Nice transition from a classless post to a classy one.

I imagine the original post being spoken in the smooth, dulcet tones of Napoleon Dynamite.

Any chance AJ Pollock, with a strong AFL and spring, fills the d'Backs gaping hole in LF next year? Or out of the question?

Completely out of the question the way I see it. Guy has 63 games in the minors and needs way more time. I'm frankly not convinced he'll ever hit enough to be a good every day player in a corner. I worry he's a bit of a tweener.

KG - Hear on anything on Banuelos' start last night? Stat line wasn't very stellar and he only last 2 innings.

Key phrase: "It's only two innings." Rusty from rest, small sample size, etc. Nothing to see here.

Also a report that Kelly's fastball touched 95, and sat between 92-94. Seems like a bit of a spike in velocity this year, is that what you are hearing?

That's about where he was all year. Small increase, but needs to harness it.

How soon can Guyer help the major-league club? Do you see him settling in at LF as a starter?

I'm not that sold on him yet. He does some good things, but like the Pollock comment, the bar for every day starting LF is very, very high.

Thanks for the report Kev--as a huge Angels fan, I'm hoping Brandon Wood gets things sorted out down in AZ. To that end, is the quality of play in the AFL roughly equivalent to AAA? I just want to know how excited to get about his recent success...

I would call it a AA/AAA environment being played in a highly inflated offensive environment. I am rooting for Wood, just because of the effort. I know he's stunk, but this says a lot about his makeup as far as I'm concerned.

Aaron/YYZ

I remain convinced that Brandon Wood and the Angels are just not good fits for each other but the market place that baseball operates under will retard his development by forcing them together for a couple more years.

Kevin - what are the chances that Wood is in the AFL as a showcase? What if he was also told this - as in either earn a trade or get waived?

Look, the AFL is the best prospect showcase there is. TONS and I truly mean TONS of scouts will have some kind of assignment there. That said, I can't imagine any player being told he was there for that reason.

Kevin... What about Ryan Adams? 3 for 3, HR, 4 RBI (giving him five in two games) for Scottsdale.

Great, the last time an A's OF prospect lit up the AFL, he retired to join the priesthood.
