DateQuestionAnswer
2012-07-09 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who is going to stay with the big club, Dewayne Wise or Darnell McDonald?
(Alex from Anaheim)
This probably depends at least somewhat on Brett Gardner's timetable. Wise is the better defender of the two, and McDonald's main skill -- hitting left-handed pitching -- is already covered by Andruw Jones, but McDonald may be less redundant with the other players on the roster. Now that I've talked myself in circles, my tentative guess is that McDonald hangs around. (Daniel Rathman)

BP Roundtables

DateRoundtable NameComment
2008-10-02 11:00:00Thursday Playoff GamesRandom fact #3: Dewayne Wise's home run today was his 16th in the big leagues. They have come off 15 different pitchers who have a combined record of 736-713; the winningest of the bunch being Jeff Weaver with 93. Wise homered off Brian Bannister twice this season. (David Laurila)
2008-10-02 11:00:00Thursday Playoff GamesDeWayne Wise gets his revenge on this roundtable with a three-run bomb. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-10-02 11:00:00Thursday Playoff GamesAnd now Reynolds is discussing bunting techniques. I said this when he was at ESPN...when he's discussing the mechanics of playing baseball, he's excellent. So's Morgan. So's Hershiser on pitching. It's when these guys start talking about value that I grind my teeth. But on mechanics...good stuff.

BTW, you don't bunt with two on and none out in front of Orlando Cabrera and DeWayne Wise. Not when your whole MO is three-run homers. Bad play.
(Joe Sheehan)
2008-10-02 11:00:00Thursday Playoff GamesI still don't get the fascination with DeWayne Wise. Did Nick Swisher badmouth Venezuela?

And if you're going to play Wise, doesn't he have to be in center field? This is like the maximum possible error for using these three players.

I really do like Ozzie Guillen as a manager, but this is just inexplicable.
(Joe Sheehan)
2008-09-30 16:30:00Twins/White Sox Play-In GameCaleb, to get DeWayne Wise out. It's very important to have the platoon advantage against DeWayne Wise.

Rather than Jim Thome. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-09-30 16:30:00Twins/White Sox Play-In Game"benrosenberg02 (boston): Why Wise and not Swisher?"

I don't know, and frankly, the whole issue is getting a little weird. The White Sox are playing DeWayne Wise, and using Ken Griffey Jr. in center field, while benching Nick Swisher...and they're eight innings from the playoffs. (Joe Sheehan)
