2003 It’s probably getting pretty tough for Armando’s agent to make the “sample size” argument. Is he out of time? Maybe. He’s been invited back as an NRI, and he’s going to have to outpitch a bunch of youngsters that are just plain better than he is. The ride is probably over.
2002 After establishing a career high with two consecutive years in which he threw more than 100 innings, Reynoso hurt his shoulder early in 2001 and missed the rest of the season. Gambling on a pitcher such as Reynoso, who has had periods of effectiveness when healthy, isn’t necessarily a bad idea; signing him to a two-year deal with an option for a third year is. When the D'backs complain about their financial woes, the press needs to trot out every one of these stupid signings as its rebuttal.
2001 Armando Reynoso throws a half-dozen kinds of junk for strikes and owns one of the best pickoff moves you’ll see from a right-handed pitcher. He's a classic example of a starter who just isn’t going to give you more than 30 starts or 170 innings; if you can live with that, you’ve got yourself a decent fourth or fifth starter. The Snakes declined to pick up Reynoso’s option for 2001, then signed him to a cheaper two-year deal.
2000 Reynoso had a terrible September, which isn’t all that surprising; he has trouble pitching an entire season without running into some kind of problem. When he’s healthy and strong, he’s good, but it’s frustrating to watch his season disintegrate because of fatigue or injury. He’s slated to remain in the rotation in 2000.
1999 Came off the DL to reel off a string of good starts that pushed the Mets briefly into a six-man rotation. Not a great bet for protracted health, which won't matter if his walk rate doesn't come down. Signed by the Diamondbacks for their rotation.
1998 Injuries and Father Time keep nipping at his heels, but he’s still a smart pitcher. I find it very hard to believe that his real age is 32. Reynoso could have been a nice addition to one of the expansion teams as late pick, as there’s not a lot else to pick from this organization.
1997 Best noted for his riotous Martin Lawrence impersonation and his four fully functional tendons. Knows how to pitch–better than league average last year, despite throwing about as hard as Vanna White at this point. I don’t know how he gets people out but he does, a la Steve Ontiveros. Traded to the Mets, where his role will depend on the health of four other guys.
1996  1966? Uh...yeah! Me too! Won't recover well from a series of injuries. A very good pitcher who could have been in the majors for many years. May still surprise people, including me. That K rate is low, though; not a good sign for his future.
