2013 Every team picks up spare veteran starters to stock the Triple-A rotation. Usually they just fill innings, though in case of catastrophe an appearance with the big-league club could happen. Dipoto has skewed younger than most with his rotation fillers: Eric Hurley, Brad Mills, Greg Smith, and now Enright. The Angels picked him up during the waiver-trade period, and he cut three runs from his ERA despite leaving his poor peripherals intact. Enrightís guts and guile seem to have topped out in Double-A, but Dipoto knows him well from his time in Arizona, so if heís vouching for the guy itís not irrelevant.
2012 The honeymoon period lasted six starts. After that, Enrightís lousy 2011 took precedence over his superficially successful 2010, and he found himself in Reno to stay, save for a lone shellacking in a mid-July spot start. The fly-baller suffered from the same gopher-itis that afflicted him in 2010, allowing 1.7 home runs per nine innings across two levels, and this time he didnít have the BABIP luck to survive the barrage. He did successfully live-tweet Daniel Hudsonís wedding in early November, complete with video and pictures, so he could make a smooth transition into a second career as a wedding photographer if his uneven performance in the Venezuelan Winter League carries over into 2012.
2011 Projected as a reliever, and an iffy one at that due to middling stuff, Enright recorded a decent ERA in half a major-league season in the rotation. However, peripheral statistics expose the dubious underpinnings of his performance. He rarely struck hitters out, didn't muster Maddux-ian control to compensate for all the contact, and served up far too many gopher balls. In fact, despite pitching just 99 innings, his total of home runs allowed ranked among the worst 50 in the sport. Executive summary: Enright had better learn to duck, because an unkind universe is about to inflict a Charlie Brown-style counter reaction.
2010 Barry Enright lacks plus stuff but knows how to utilize his skills. Barring vast improvement in his changeup he is best suited for relief duty.
2009 Barry Enright is a finesse pitcher who got hit hard in the California League by trying to overpower people; let that be a warning to you.
