BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2013 The jokes wrote themselves when the Twins traded Bullock to the Braves for Scott Diamond—trading a hard-thrower for a soft-thrower is such a Twins thing to do. But while Diamond had a successful season for the Twins in 2012, Bullock spent the year walking nearly a batter per inning in the upper minors. Bullock has the stuff to become a late-inning force—a mid-90s fastball and occasionally plus slider—but his command and control issues may sabotage his efforts. He’ll give the upper minors another go in 2013. Hopefully this time his pitches can find the plate.
2012 Tracing Bullock’s Braves origins provides another excuse to credit the organization’s ability to identify and develop undervalued talent. In this case, amateur free agents, as they signed Scott Diamond back in 2007, left him unprotected in the 2010 Rule 5 draft, then traded Diamond’s rights to the Twins for Bullock. Diamond had no chance to crack this year’s Braves rotation or any in the next few seasons, but Bullock could find himself in the bullpen sooner rather than later. He is a big righty with a mean fastball (clocked in the upper-90s before) and no idea where the ball is headed once it leaves his grip.
2011 Standing at six-foot-six, Billy Bullock makes for a formidable presence on the mound, and adds to the intimidation factor with a riding fastball that has been clocked as high as 98 mph, making him an appealing short-relief prospect.
2010 A second-round pick last June, Billy Bullock is one of those college relievers who could move quickly and settle into a set-up man role within the next two years.
