BP Chats

DateQuestionAnswer
2014-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Chris, I'm in an 10 year H2H Roto Deep Keeper League and wondered if I could trade my Darwin Barney for your old Halloween candy.
(Balki from Bartokomous)
Will get bak to you on that I have a lot of ballz in the air but I'm interest. (Chris Rodriguez)
2014-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)After his recent hot streak, can we start to say Arismendy Alcantara has proven himself ready for a callup? What kind of OBP do you think we can expect ROS?
(LoyalRoyal from Poolside)
In a vacuum, I'd like to see Alcantara spend the entire year at Triple-A. He's only 22 and his plate discipline was getting exposed early in Triple-A. He's never going to be a huge on-base guy, but you can't mistake the power production at second base. Plus, Darwin Barney is so terrible that it's going to be an upgrade no matter what. I'd see a .270/.320/.450 kind of guy, which is a nice offensive piece at second base. (Jeff Moore)
2014-06-16 13:00:00 (link to chat)with Barney hitting .190 and Bonafacio DL, do expect the cubs to take a look at Alcantara at 2B.
(Frank from chicago)
Yeah, I'd expect it, but Alcantara currently has a .313 OBP in Triple-A. Remember, the grass isn't always greener. Ok, well it's greener than Darwin Barney, but you get the idea. (Jeff Moore)
2014-02-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)I know Spring Training rarely means much, but are there any guys we should keep a close eye on? To see if they are returning from injury well/keeping gains in control/breaking camp?
(Keith from Brooklyn)
Mike Olt is my de facto pick for "guy to watch in spring training". The Cubs offense is a damn mess and I don't think they can stomach playing Darwin Barney and Luis Valbuena for all that much longer. I think they would love Olt to win the job out of spring. (Mauricio Rubio)
2012-08-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)But Darwin Barney!
(bradleyankrom from NYC)
Barney would make a fine utility player. (R.J. Anderson)
2012-08-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you see out of Darwin Barney gold glove defender? Backup on first division team? Or ML starter? thanks
(Mclan89 from Somewhere )
He's a wonderful BASEBALL player, but not very toolsy, or enough of an offensive contributor to work as an every day player. He's going to be in the big leagues for a decade or more though, and deservedly so. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-06-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Well, you made it to 24, you may be talking to yourself in chats, but that's better than other Lindbergh babies have managed....Is Darwin Barney capable of being the next David Eckstein?
(Mike from Chicago)
Good point--I'm doing okay by Lindbergh baby standards. As for Barney, no way--he has at least four inches on Eckstein, so even if he were Eck's equal as a player, he'd never have his heart. (Ben Lindbergh)
2011-06-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)I've already got Ackley and Montero burning spots on my roster, but Moustakas is available. Would you drop either of the guys I already have in favor of Moustakas? The main reason I have Ackley is that I'm a bit short at second with Darwin Barney as my main guy there. I've got Youkilis at third and Soto at catcher.
(JayT from San Francisco)
Not Ackley, but maybe Montero. It's tough to say if/when Montero will get the call with no real spot for him unless the Yanks part ways with Posada. I'd probably hang onto Montero and look to drop Barney for Moustakas once Ackley gets the call. (Derek Carty)
2011-06-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Where would you rank Allen Craig amongst NL 2B once he gets eligibility?
(KD from Loop)
Depends how much they play Schumaker. If the PT gets split relatively evenly, he's probably somewhere in the middle, ahead of guys like Daniel Murphy and Jonathan Herrera, maybe in line with a guy like Darwin Barney. It really depends on the PT, though. (Derek Carty)
2011-05-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Darwin Barney has been way better then I would have ever expected. Is this just a mirage, or do you think he has a chance of keeping this production up?
(JayT from San Francisco)
Barney sure seems to be turning into a fan favorite, doesn't he? His big league career line isn't too far off what he did in Triple-A, but I'm not certain he is as good as people want him to be because of his intangibles and personality. (R.J. Anderson)
2011-04-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)NL only, 12 team 5x5. I stumbled into shockingly good depth at 2b (which is scarce as heck): Bill Hall, Darwin Barney (bench), Freddy Sanchez, Willie Bloomquist. Who should start, who are trade bait?
(jm010e from Vegas)
I would move Bloomquist, for sure--depending on him to keep it up is a bet I wouldn't want to make, and one you don't have to make, given your depth there. Barney probably won't bring back much in a deal, whether he is good or not, so dangling one of the other two to see what you can get would be the right play. (Marc Normandin)
2011-04-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Ok, this Cub team isn't all that exciting to watch. Coming out of the gates and displaying their mediocrity in mediocre fashion. But when can I get incredibly excited about Starlin Castro's start? Now? Am I late already? Should I wait a month? I need something to overhype and he seems to be all I got.
(HypedUp Cub Fan from Chicago)
Especially since they're displaying their mediocrity in mediocre fashion against some pretty lousy teams. Hype up Castro all you want -- he's all we've got. Seriously, can you get excited over Marlon Byrd? Darwin Barney? Marcos Mateo? Castro just hits and hits and hits, and he's risen to every challenge he's been given. I've grown to love the kid, and it's a shameless, probably eventually self-defeating love, but I've thrown myself into it. Feel free to join me. (Ken Funck)
2009-07-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)Has the Cubs system improved quite a bit this season with the emeregence of guys like Cashner, Castro, Jackson and Carpenter (amongst others)?
(Raisin from LA)
I think so. It's interesting, in that nearly every couple of weeks I'm talking to someone who sees some Cubs guy he really likes. Add shortstop Darwin Barney to your list. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-07-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)When you say you like Darwin Barney, you mean in a utility infield way right? I mean there's no way a guy with 0 secondary skills can be a starter. Or at least deserve to be a starter.
(Jon from Rhode Island)
What is he's a 70 defender? Was good enough for Elvis Andrus. (Kevin Goldstein)
