DateQuestionAnswer
2014-01-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Just for reference, the last 9 WARP seasons (rounding) by a RF? 2011 Jose Bautista, 2001 Sammy Sosa, 2001 Shawn Green, 1988 Jose Canseco, 1986 Jesse Barfield. (Add in LF, and you get a whole lot of Bonds, plus 2001 Luis Gonzalez and Rickey in 1990 and 1980. Also, holy 1980 Willie Wilson FRAA.) So I think I'd be surprised by a 9 win season.
(justarobert from Santa Clara)
It's a fair point, but I think Puig is a better defender than Bautista so can contribute more on that side of the ball. I'm not saying it's likely - it's not - but I do think it's within his spectrum of production. (Craig Goldstein)
2010-06-07 18:30:00 (link to chat)You said you're quite high on Michael Choice -- what type of numbers do you see him putting up in his prime, and more importantly, from which position?
(JP_Frost from Amsterdam, Netherlands)
What up Amsterdam? For me, Choice is a classic RF profile. 30 HR, tons of walks, good glove, big arm. Jesse Barfield kinda guy? (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-02-16 16:00:00 (link to chat)Is Tom Brunansky the most underrated RF of the 1980s?
(Jake from St. Louis, MO)
There’s a good idea for a mini-series. The all-under-rated team of the 1980s, which is when I came of age in baseball fandom. Tom Brunansky vs. Jesse Barfield. Bert Blyleven vs. Dave Steib. The Astros rainbow warrior jerseys vs. the Brown and Gold Padres things from the early 80s. Bruno probably gets the start in right. (Russell A. Carleton)
2008-06-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)I'm doing more screaming at my TV than usual since Cito and Gene Tenace are now the saviours in Toronto. No word of a lie. In the first inning of the first game Rance Mulliniks and Jesse Barfield noted how the Jays batters had a noticeably different approach at the plate and that was due to the change in staff. How ridiculous is that.
(Otto from Halifax)
They stood taller! They just loosened up and had some fun! They had a laxative! Whatever value Gaston brought, it would have to be in intangible, mood-altering managing, because tactically he didn't do ANYTHING... except trash his own young players. (Steven Goldman)
