2013 Ehire Adrianza is a good defender at shortstop, but has been unable to pack muscle onto his frame as once projected, and he struggles with the bat, pointing to a future as a utility infielder.
2012 Adrianza's range, hands, and arm are all excellent, but even for all glove/no hit shortstops, "no hit" is relative. There's a long danger zone between what's generally called "no" offense, meaning very little, and absolute zero offense. His strong showing in the California League preserves some promise that he'll keep his line above zero. He draws walks, he hits line drives, and as his thin frame began to fill out in 2011, he added a dash of power. Still, it was a lost year of development, which likely costs him a shot at cracking the Giants' weak depth chart in 2012.
2011 A classic good-field/no-hit shortstop, the scrawny 21-year-old Venezuelan Adrianza is an outstanding fielder who will steal his share of bases and even draw a few walks, but his utter lack of power and inability to hit for league-average batting lines in the low minors will limit him to a bench role at best in the majors. His running adds bases to his ledger, but it also adds outs. Factor both into Adrianza's career hitting line and you get an unsightly .226/.315/.357. Still, his glove is so good that it could make him a major-league bench option in short order.
2010 Ehire Adrianza gets touted for Gold Glove-level potential afield for his plus range at short, and he handled his full-season debut well, showing remarkable patience for a teen.
