DateQuestionAnswer
2009-10-06 13:30:00 (link to chat)I think the Nats and Pirates may BOTH have brighter near-term futures than the Mets . . . am I wrong?
(dianagramr from NYC)
I would agree 100 percent with that. Or as Esteban Loaiza was always fond of saying, 110 percent. (John Perrotto)
2009-04-16 13:00:00 (link to chat)Isn't the Cliff Lee award really the Esteban Loaiza award?
(Tony from Brooklyn, NY)
If Lee is only great for one season, then yes. By the way, this reminds me. We do need some kind of classification system for these awards named after players. We have the Brian Giles Award for Unheralded Excellence from Eric Neel, if I'm remembering all of that correctly. We can go with the Cliff Lee award, assuming he puts together another great season (of course, if he has just one year, then we can name the award the same but with different meaning). Nominations for other awards? Let's get these in quick! (Marc Normandin)
2008-06-04 16:00:00 (link to chat)White Sox just signed Esteban Loaiza, do I laugh or cry?
(Mike from Chicago)
I often do both, but then the whiskey kicks in. (Kevin Goldstein)
2003-09-04 15:00:00 (link to chat)Who is next year's Esteban Loaiza going to be? I looked at his PECOTA and even he didn't look like he would be this year's Esteban Loaiza. Thanks.
(hawkeye from North Dakota)
Doug Davis, although he's more like next year's Jamie Moyer, and unlikely to be as good as Loaiza. I'll also mention Dan Reichert.

The beautiful thing is that we can throw out a dozen names, but someone not on the list is going to surprise us.
(Joe Sheehan)

PITCHf/x Pitcher Profile

A Collaboration between BrooksBaseball.net and Baseball Prospectus - Pitch classifications provided by Pitch Info LLC

Although he has not thrown an MLB pitch in 2014, Esteban Loaiza threw 904 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2007 and 2013, all of them occuring in the MLB Regular Season. In 2013, he relied primarily on his Slider (78mph) and Fourseam Fastball (82mph). He also rarely threw a Change (75mph).
