BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2016 A gifted athlete, Tyler Goeddel took a promotion to Double-A and position change to the outfield in stride. The super-utility tools are all there, which is why Philadelphia grabbed him in the Rule 5 draft this winter.
2015 Tyler Goeddel sometimes struggles with throws on the run and balls have a tendency to eat him up at third; at the plate he showed some pitch-recognition improvement and inside-the-park power.
2013 Goeddel’s father helped develop HGH (lose that smirk), and his brother Erik pitches in the Mets farm system: genetic brains and brawn. Scouts suggested that Goeddel might take his promising bat and athleticism to center field. The Rays even think he's agile enough to play shortstop (although he'll stay at third), and weren't worried that he made 29 errors at the hot corner last season, 19 of them in his last 40 games. Goeddel is still lanky and wore down as the season progressed. After an 853 April OPS with three homers, it never reached 700 in any subsequent month, and he hit only three more taters the rest of the way. The Rays will wait for him to fill out into full-season form and the third-base profile.

2016-03-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)The following names aren't necessarily exciting....but in what order would you rank Trayce Thompson, Travis Shaw, Patrick Kivlehan and Tyler Goeddel for a dynasty league? Would there be a standout if just looking for potential current year impact? Cheers
(markdavo4 from Australia)
In dynasty, Shaw, Kivlehan, Goeddel, and Thompson. For 2016 only Goeddel has an opportunity now that Aaron Altherr is out for most if not all of the season and could be the guy to take a big leap forward. (Mike Gianella)
2016-03-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)Who are the top 3 speedsters in the minors that have a chance to come up this year and play.
(CharJaco from oak)
Tim Anderson, Tyler Goeddel (he could start now), and Socrates Brito. (Mike Gianella)
2016-02-03 20:00:00 (link to chat)With our new prospects draft approaching, I need to make room for two MiLB spots. Which two get the axe? Adam Walker, Tyler Goeddel, Tyler White or Alex Blandino? If I had to guess, it'll be Benintendi and someone like Naylor or Austin Riley replacing them.
(Wally from LA)
Goeddel was taken in the Rule 5, so I'd probably hold him and see if he can stick. Blandino is the other keep here but I can't wait to see what Tyler White does this year. (Greg Wellemeyer)
2013-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Tyler Goeddel?
(boneil33 from Boston)
Don't have any reports on him yet from this season, but heard some intriguing things from last year. A couple scouts told me he was one of the org's better projection guys, said he could really backspin the ball, and liked the pure potential. The early results certainly seem promising. One thing I'm looking forward to hearing from scouts: I was told that he lost some weight during last season, which isn't a good thing for him (he's already a slim 6'4"). I'd like to hear how the body looks right now at age 20. (Jason Cole)
