DateQuestionAnswer
2016-09-08 19:00:00 (link to chat)I am in a head-to-head, AL-only keeper league. Five keepers, no restrictions (i.e., no time limit, no salary implications). Hitter categories: R, RBI, OBP, SLG, PA and A (yes, assists). Here is how I am leaning on my keeper candidates: Locks, barring injury or trade to NL: Sale and Machado Next three: Alex Bregman, Miguel Sano and Devon Travis Could move up: Nomar Mazara, Jurickson Profar, Byron Buxton Do you think I have it right?
(vgalloro from Chicago)
This is a really tough decision. I would keep Machado, Sale, Bregman and Mazara as my surefire locks. It comes down to Buxton and Sano for the final spot in my book. Given the other options you're going to have at third base between Machado and Bregman, I would lean towards Buxton. He's missed a ton of development time due to injuries and is just starting to put it together at the plate against major-league pitching, as evidenced by his performance over the last few weeks. With steals becoming so scarce in fantasy, I would gravitate towards Buxton. Devon Travis is already 25-years-old and coming off several injury riddled seasons. He and Profar (for similar reasons) are the guys I would have no problem throwing back. Thanks for the question! (George Bissell)
2016-07-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is it safe to say that Alex Bregman is a bust after his 0 for 4, with 2 Ks and 6 LOB?
(mdickson from Baton Rouge)
Not safe, and you'll make his dad cry. (Jessica Quiroli)
2016-05-16 23:00:00 (link to chat)Alex Bregman is raking. What's the upside here? He walks, he doesn't strike out. He hits for average and is hitting for much more power than anyone expected. Are we looking at a mid-season top 10 prospect, or is he even going to be in the minors to qualify at this point?
(holmesp2001 from St. Louis)
I loved him last year, one of the best, most polished players to roll through the Cal. Biggest improvement has been his ability to turn on pitches he can drive on the inner third, and I kick myself for not being more aggressive with his power grade last year given his intelligence at the plate. Otherwise I feel pretty good about the eval. He's as well-rounded a player as you'll see. Just made his first start at third the other night, and given the org context that's very definitely his easiest path to the bigs. And he can handle it with the glove.

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/eyewitness_bat.php?reportid=294 (Wilson Karaman)
2016-05-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Xander Bogaerts the best shortstop in the AL? In baseball?
(Brian from Tehran)
Oh boy. Well, are we counting Manny Machado? If we are, it's Machado. If we're mentally keeping Machado at third base, then it's between Xander, Carlos Correa and Francisco Lindor.
Hello there, Cardinals fans! Yes, Aledmys Diaz is going to come back down to Earth, and he's already wonky on defense. Please don't kill me.
Correa isn't as good on defense as you think, but there's clearly a small mountain of potential in his bat and he's already shown that he can wreck shop on offense. Lindor can do everything, and Boegarts is finally hitting like we all thought he could. It's reeeeally close between Lindor and Boegarts, with Correa just behind and likely moving to third base when Alex Bregman decides it's time to throw his hat into the ring. So if it isn't Boegarts, he's just a hair behind.
Unless it's Machado. Then it's Manny by a mile. (Nicolas Stellini)
2016-04-21 19:00:00 (link to chat)Has Alex Bregman changed his approach at the plate? The power is more than everyone expected and he's doing it in AA. Just curious if you've seen or heard anything.
(Fishinrob from Key West)
I haven't. To be honest, it's difficult enough to identify tangible changes in MLB players where I have data and video clips to look at; in the case of someone like Bregman who I haven't seen before, it's next to impossible. (Mike Gianella)
2016-04-12 18:00:00 (link to chat)What are the Astros going to do with Alex Bregman? Is he prime trade bait for an SP or is there another position for him in Houston since SS and 2B are filled?
(holmesp2001 from St. Louis)
It's a nice problem to have. I guess they could move Bregman; if there was an "ace" to get that's as good of piece as you can realistically offer, but my guess is this will end up working out. These things have a way of working out. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-08-13 20:00:00 (link to chat)Greg, in that same league would you rather have $25 Chris Archer and $3 Gibson or $6 Julio Urias and $1 Alex Bregman?
(Matthew from Twin Cities)
Archer side. I like Urias and Bregan both but always go for the established major leaguers unless it's cost prohibitive. (Greg Wellemeyer)
2015-06-15 19:00:00 (link to chat)Brendan, if you were a GM and you were in position to sign any of Dansby Swanson, Alex Bregman, Trea Turner, Orlando Arcia or Wilmer Difo, who would you take and why?
(jeffbroyde from Socal)
With respect to the rest, I'm debating Swanson and Arcia. I like Arcia's glove, and think he'll start at short for several years, but I think I'd cave and go with Swanson's upside. Hard to pass up a SS with plus speed and 15-20 homer power potential. (Brendan Gawlowski)
2015-06-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)I've seen mock drafts that have the Astros trying to save money with their first few picks. Why would they want to save money? They have $17 million, and there isn't the best draft to say the least.
(Justin from Washington)
Boy, it's a good question. Look, if it works ut that they get Alex Bregman, Carson Fulmer and Daz Cameron in the same draft -- yes, that's possible -- then great. But I'd say that's a less than 25 percent chance. If Cameron doesn't make it to them at 37, I don't see another player that makes not taking Bregman or Tucker at pick five worth it. But that's just me. (Christopher Crawford)

As a polished college bat that could go early in the draft, yes, but Rendon was a 3B who is holding his own at 2B right now while Bregman is an up the middle player all the way who can handle SS. They're not close enough to give them an updated software tag. (Jeff Moore)
