BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2016 Of all the pieces the Phillies received from Texas in return for Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman, none came with as little fanfare as Eickhoff, a relative unknown outside of prospect-nerd circles. Flash forward to the present and Eickhoff is the one generating the most excitement following an exceedingly promising four-start stretch in September and October. He dramatically increased his curve usage, and the pitch seemed to get more plus as the starts passed, generating more swings-and-misses and finishing hitters off without balls in play. There's room for his other secondary offerings to improve, and they'll need to if Eickhoff hopes to maintain success multiple times through a batting order now that there's plenty of major-league video on him, but he's the Phillies' de facto no. 2 starter for 2016 without question.

BP Chats

DateQuestionAnswer
2016-12-01 19:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Mike, Who should I keep for 2017, Gerrit Cole or Jerad Eickhoff? Cole has more upside but costs a lot more and has injury questions while Eickhoff has some potential to be solid for cheaper price.
(Cal guy from cal)
Oy. If there's a price difference, I'd go Eickhoff. Hate to give up Cole, but the flags are crimson. Crimson! (Mike Gianella)
2016-03-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)What players outside the top 200 are you targeting for a potential flyer?
(Truganini from CO)
To name a few: Will Myers, Josh Reddick, Aaron Nola, Rich Hill, Jayson Werth, Ben Paulsen, and Jerad Eickhoff. (Mike Gianella)
2016-01-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)How about ranking MLB-debuting starting pitchers Jorge Lopez, Tyler Duffey, Cody Anderson, Zach Davies, John Lamb, Colin Rea, Mike Montgomery and Jerad Eickhoff for long-term value in a dynasty sim league, if you please? Are there big tiers or divisions there? Thanks for all your time spent on scouting and chats.
(delatopia from the 415)
Lopez is a clear No. 1 to me. After that I'd go Rea, Davies, Lamb, Eickhoff, Duffey, Anderson, Montgomery. (Christopher Crawford)
