BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2016 Bonifacio found a little more success during his second spin through the Texas League, as the young Dominican began turning some measure of his power potential into game-day thump. He lacks his brother Emilio's quickness, but his cannon arm and burgeoning power make him an ideal fit for right field. However, advanced pitchers still take advantage of his over-aggressive approach and fool him with spin, so there's plenty of doubt whether he'll ever get on base enough to be more than a minor-league lifer.
2015 If minor league baseball has a weeder class it's Double-A, and Bonifacio showed last year he wasn't ready to make the grade. He has the raw power and cannon arm of a prototypical right fielder, but has yet to translate them into production on the field, and was certifiably awful at the plate last year. Off-speed pitches continue to give him fits, and his approach leads neither to walks nor to counts where he can lay into get-me-over fastballs with impunity. Bonifacio is still young, of course, but there's a lot of work to do.
2014 The younger of the Royals' Good Face Brothers, Jorge Bonifacio missed a month and a half with a hand injury and never found the power in his short, compact swing.
2013 The younger brother of Emilio, Jorge Bonifacio has a violent swing, but also the ability to make exceptional contact, squaring the ball up and hitting for plus power.

DateQuestionAnswer
2015-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of future do you see for Jorge Bonifacio?
(BL from (Bozeman))
He's been eaten alive by upper minors breaking stuff since getting promoted last year, and the hit tool hasn't shown much improvement this year from what I've heard. It's more of a 4th OF/2nd division hope at this point, and he'll need to show the ability to make adjustments in order to get there. (Wilson Karaman)
2015-01-28 19:00:00 (link to chat)I know you mentioned Jorge Bonifacio on a podcast earlier in the year. What do you think a realistic expectation (ceiling) is for him?
(Jason from NJ)
I think we're looking at a second division starter here. The lack of success at the upper minors is concerning. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-04-03 19:30:00 (link to chat)hey craig, thanks for the chat. is there an upper level hitting prospect that u feel isnt receiving the type of love he should? something below the Piscotty line if there is such a thing.
(hdub from the bleachers)
Not sure what exactly the Piscotty line is for you, but I think I'm higher on Jorge Bonifacio than most. He's not an all-star but he should be a capable right fielder who has plenty of fantasy value. He's in the Arcia mold for me. (Craig Goldstein)
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)If you had to rank these OF for dynasty purposes: Phillip Ervin, Nick Williams, Raimel Tapia, Domingo Santana and Jorge Bonifacio.
(Connor from Dallas )
Wow, you hit on a lot of semi-under the radar guys I love here. Tapia, Williams, Santana, Bonifacio, Ervin. But I think it's fairly close all the way around except for Ervin. (Ben Carsley)
2013-08-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you see in Jorge Bonifacio and Orlando Calixte? Calixte seems quietly impressive.
(Kcroyals2012 from Omaha)
I really haven't seen much of Bonifacio yet and sadly probably will completely miss NWA during the regular season. I should get a look at both during either advanced instructs or the Fall League. Saw Calixte and Wilmington last year and was intrigued. While he's not a top guy, he can flash a little with the glove and bat. Maybe utility future? There's talent though. (Jason Cole)
2013-02-25 11:00:00 (link to chat)Jorge Bonifacio or Maikel Franco? Did either get much consideration?
(Big Z from atlanta)
I like both; both were on my initial list. Both have quick bats and good raw pop (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects)
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are you still high on Jorge Bonifacio and impressed with his hit tool? Somehow in my memory your quote stated that a scout murmur about Bonifacio's hit tool and even power potential. Whether that's true or false, let's talk about Jorge.
(Jim from WA)
Bonifacio was a KG favorite, but I like him as well. I don't like the athletic profile, but he has bat speed and legit power potential. The raw power is very impressive, and several scouts have suggested he can stand with some of the big boys in the minors in that department. I'm not THAT high on his power, but Ive seen him launch a few bombs, so I can see the case. (Jason Parks)
2012-04-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Have you been able to see Jorge Bonifacio? If so, on a scale of Marge Schott - Martin Kove, how sexy is he?
(Michael from Topeka)
I have. He's much closer to Martin Kove, but he's not that close to Martin Kove. I liked him, though. He has tools; good power potential/ good hit/ very good arm/ present athleticism. He's a legit corner OF prospect. (Jason Parks)
