2016 A solid defender with good range and the ability to swipe a bag, Calixte has decent pop for a middle infielder and can look like a future big-league shortstop. Then you'll see him repeatedly hack away at off-speed junk outside the zone and doubt he can ever survive long-term exposure to big-league pitching when Triple-A journeymen can torture him so. The hardest things for young hitters to learn are patience and pitch recognition, so Calixte is likely at best a utility infielder in waiting.
2015 Orlando Calixte avoids the standard cliché by being a good field, some hit shortstop: He's slick and rangy and can muscle up some home run thump, but unless he suddenly improves his pitch recognition and makes more contact, he's a future utility guy.
2014 A solid defensive shortstop with a strong arm, Orlando Calixte struggled with off-speed pitches and suffered from an unrefined approach at the plate.
2013 Signed for $1 million as an 18-year-old in the Dominican Republic, Calixte has been equal parts exciting and frustrating. He started to make noise and move up in prospect rankings with a breakout performance in Kane County. He led the Cougars in home runs the first half of the season before earning a promotion to High-A Wilmington. His swing packs a wallop, but gets long at times. His approach is swing first and ask questions later. The Royals are working on his pitch recognition so he can harness that power for good and not evil. A strong arm, he remains raw defensively, but his footwork and positioning have improved.

2013-08-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you see in Jorge Bonifacio and Orlando Calixte? Calixte seems quietly impressive.
(Kcroyals2012 from Omaha)
I really haven't seen much of Bonifacio yet and sadly probably will completely miss NWA during the regular season. I should get a look at both during either advanced instructs or the Fall League. Saw Calixte and Wilmington last year and was intrigued. While he's not a top guy, he can flash a little with the glove and bat. Maybe utility future? There's talent though. (Jason Cole)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)MiLB.com wrote today that Orlando Calixte was the most exciting prospect in the Texas League and that he has the potential for a "Profar-ian breakout." Do you agree with that?
(George Erringer from NYC)
No; that's ridiculous. He's a good prospect, but most exciting in the Texas League? Cmon, bruh. That's not even close. (Jason Parks)
