2013 Dozier came into 2012 unfairly hyped as the next big thing by the Twins and by the local media after they saw his A) beautiful, flowing blond hair, and B) breakout 2011 split across two levels. Nobody thought to mention that he was high on the age curve: 24 years old at High-A. He was promoted in May and installed as the every-day shortstop through August, but fell out of favor because of terrible plate discipline, inability to make solid contact, and defensive struggles. The Twins demoted him back to Rochester, where he began transitioning to second base with the hope that he can play there regularly, or at least be a passable utility infielder.
2012 A 2009 eighth-round pick out of the University of Southern Mississippi, Dozier put himself on the map with a breakout 2011 season, tearing up the Florida State League in a slight return to Fort Myers, then continuing to roll through the Eastern League. Dozier has above-average bat speed and contact ability, as well as a polished approach at the plate. He's only got gap power, however, and doesn't profile to reach double digits in homers at the major league level. Scouts feel he lacks the athleticism and arm strength to play shortstop in the majors, so he's likely bound for second base. The Twins view Jamey Carroll as a bridge to Dozier, but it's not clear the latter has the range or arm to stick there for long either. In any event, the perpetual trainwreck in the Twins infield likely means Dozier will get a look sometime in 2012.

2014-05-15 20:00:00 (link to chat)25 February 2014 Team A trades $9 JJ Hardy and $10 Brian Dozier to Team B for $38 Justin Verlander Contract years are the same for all players. Team A was willing to give up 43 middle infield home runs in order to get Verlander, letting Team B off a pre-auction high salary hook. Dynasty league with salary inflation to kick in next year, normal $260 limit at auction. Unlimited keepers so long as under the salary limit. Now the team that traded for Verlander wants to trade him back to the same owner. Its clearly a dump trade. One thing that is bothersome besides the fact that were about two months before normal dumping time is that the dumping Team A is in THIRD PLACE in a league of 15 teams: #3 Team A trades $38 Justin Verlander and $12 Chase Utley to #1 Team B $1 Jose Fernandez and $1 Jedd Gyorko As a commissioner, would you allow this trade or call for a vote?
(TeamPineTar from KC)
As commissioner, the first thing I would do is eliminate trade vetoes. (Bret Sayre)
2014-05-07 17:00:00 (link to chat)Would you sell me high in an OPB league or will i keep enough value moving forward?
(Brian Dozier from Min)
I got dinged on Twitter for saying I wouldn't trade Brian Dozier for Robinson Cano. So you might say I'm high on Dozier. It's not that I necessarily believe Cano will be worse than Dozier but that I could see the two being comparable ROS. Dozier's numbers over the last calendar year: 26/93/70/23/.242/.324. He'll hurt you in OBP but he does enough every where else that he's legit, and will be one of the better 2B in the bigs. (Mike Gianella)
2014-03-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts about Brian Dozier's improvement last year? Do you think the gains are for real--can he be a 15-16 HR guy the next few years? I really like the potential lineup he might be a part of in 2015 (Arcia,Buxton,Sano).
(balticwolf from Silver Spring)
I like BD. He seems to be selling out for power and I'd like to see the AVG improve some, but if he continues to sell out for power and you can take the AVG hit, he's a great option. Doesn't cost much, either (Paul Sporer)
2014-01-21 18:00:00 (link to chat)Are you buying the Brian Dozier projection hype established by a few sites?
(jaymoff from Salem)
I haven't seen any Brian Dozier hype...I must be visiting the wrong sites. I think Dozier is going to slip somewhat this year and is more of an asset in deeper mixed and only leagues than in standard mixed. The power won't completely maintain and the batting average is going to slip. He'll keep the job, but isn't going to be a 25-30 HR guy. (Mike Gianella)
2012-05-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of production do you see from Brian Dozier now that he's the starter and do you see him holding onto the job?
(LoyalRoyal from Kansas)
From what I know about Dozier, he'll be a solid, if unspectacular player. I'm skeptical about his defense at shortstop--he's been described as someone without the arm or range for the position--and frankly, I think Jamey Carroll is better than what he's shown. Still, why not give Dozier a shot if you're Minnesota? (R.J. Anderson)
2012-04-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)I noticed Brian Dozier and Jordany Valdespin did not make your list for impact prospects in the first question. I see opportunity potentially there for both. But, not sure on production. Thoughts???
(LoyalRoyal from Kansas)
Yeah, that list was far from comprehensive. Behind potentially shaky middle infields, I could see either coming up a grabbing full-time at-bats and being fairly successful. Neither are super prospects, but in AL or NL-only, either is a worthy stash. (Derek Carty)
2012-01-20 14:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Brian Dozier? Can he be an above average MLB ss?
(Jen from England)
No, but he can be a solid 2B. (Kevin Goldstein)
