2013 Danny Worth shuttled between Detroit and Toledo five different times in 2012 and should probably expect more of the same in 2013.
2012 The heir-apparent to Ramon Santiago, this winter’s roster machinations may let Worth finally strap on Detroit’s utility belt. He provides the same mix of solid defense and suspect offense as Santiago, and has the advantages of youth, a smaller paycheck, and the wide-eyed belief that he can grow into something more. He won’t, but with the dread specter of a Santiago/Raburn platoon at second base possibly in the offing, Worth may break camp as the final infield reserve.
2011 A former second-round pick out of Pepperdine, Worth earned his first stint with the big club last year and cemented the opinion that he possesses a world-class glove and a bat unlikely to meet even the modest offensive ambitions of a modern-day starting shortstop. If that reminds you of Ramon Santiago, it should, as Worth stands a good chance of inheriting the same “utility/desperation starter” role when Santiago’s contract expires this fall.
2009 If shortstop Danny Worth can figure out anything offensively, he'll reach the big leagues, because defensively he's as good as anyone in the system.
