BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2014 Due to publishing agreements, the 2014 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2014 book (available in hardcopy, e-book, and Kindle).
2013 If Atlanta has a Peter Moylan succession plan, you better believe Gearrin is the fulcrum. He shares a lot of qualities with Moylan: arm slot, stuff, and relative strengths and weaknesses. There isnít much left for Gearrin to do at Triple-A since heís spent the past three seasons there. Gearrin will become a fixture in Atlantaís bullpen at some point soon, likely as a right-handed specialist.
2012 Gearrin is the logical successor to Peter Moylan. From arm slot (side) to prominent strengths (generates groundballs, annoys righties) and velocity (maxes out in the low-90s), Gearrin is like a Moylan facsimile. During his time in the majors he faced 50 right-handed batters, retiring 18 by strikeout and allowing 13 to reach base. Less impressive was Gearrinís performance against lefties, although four of his six walks issued were intentional in nature. A future righty specialist.
2011 Right-hander Cory Gearrin is a side-armer with the corresponding huge ground-ball rate, but the Braves already have a better version in Peter Moylan.
