2012-12-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any projections on this year's new Pacific Rim imports: pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu with the Dodgers and infielder Hiroyuki Nakajima with the A's?
(Paul from DC)
Great name first off, but secondly I do not know much of anything about either of these imports just yet. I've been spending almost all of my time working on the BP Annual (available for pre-order now! http://www.baseballprospectus.com/book/#1118459199) so I haven't really sought out info on either of them yet. (Paul Sporer)
2012-12-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)The As moved quickly on to their backup plan after losing out on Stephen Drew, signing import Hiroyuki Nakajima to take over at shortstop. What do you know about him?
(Joel from Indianapolis )
Only his stats from BRef, which is to say nothing. I'm sure our buddy Mr. McLeod would be the go-to there. I'm interested to learn more myself, but as it stands he's new to me. (Paul Sporer)
2012-12-04 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is there any chance San Francisco looks to Jeff Keppinger to fill the hole at 2B if they are unable to re-sign Marco Scutaro?
(CoachFish35 from SoCal)
A lot of Marco Scutaro- and Jeff Keppinger-related questions in the queue, so I'll kill all of those birds with CoachFish35's stone. As I said earlier in the chat, I think the Giants will end up re-signing Scutaro, but I'm not sure about Keppinger as a fallback. Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reported earlier this morning that the Yankees are in hot pursuit of Keppinger, and I think he fits better in a platoon/utility role than as an everyday second baseman.

One name to keep an eye on as an alternative for the Giants is Hiroyuki Nakajima. The SF Chronicle' John Shea tweeted yesterday that the Giants are in contact with his representatives in case Scutaro heads elsewhere: https://twitter.com/JohnSheaHey/status/275761688098271232. (Daniel Rathman)
2011-11-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey,Jay! Any thoughts about Yank's infield? Should we bid on Hiroyuki Nakajima though I'm not buying Japanese infielders that much, thanks!!
(hulala from Taipei)
The Yankees' infield isn't going anywhere. Fortifying it with decent backups is the order of the day - Eric Chavez was a decent cornerman, though I wouldn't mind a bit more sock. Eduardo Nunez wasn't horrible in the total package, but his defense definitely needs work.

The exchange rate on Japanese infielders is horrible right now. I don't know anything about Nakajima, but unless he's a bat-first guy who hit 30 homers over there, I wouldn't touch him with a 40-foot clown pole, and I don't see why the Yankees would need him. (Jay Jaffe)
