BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2015 Until the Angels claimed him off waivers in October, Alfredo Marte was somehow the second-longest-tenured player on the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster. He has the tools to contribute at the major-league level, but the flaws to limit him to a fourth-outfielder role.
2014 When Cody Ross and Adam Eaton both broke camp broken down, Alfredo "For The Last Time I'm Not Andy" Marte became the de facto fourth outfielder on the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster. He struggled at the plate and was eventually sent down as team health improved. His 2012 Double-A numbers might have been too good to be true, which explains how his Triple-A numbers turned out to be "just right," according to noted baseball scout Goldilocks. He's still young enough to improve and contend for a 25-man spot, but this time he'll have to earn it.
2013 Marte exploded in his first real taste of Double-A, enjoying a tremendous power spike in conjunction with an emerging affinity for taking a walk. The combination added up to an OPS that was the highest of his professional career. Marte built upon the improvements that he had made in 2011, and the performance earned him a trip to the Futures Game. The ability to make adjustments is a critical skill at the highest level, where a batter's weaknesses are quickly identified and exploited. Marte's pattern of statistical improvement as he faces tougher competition is a ringing endorsement of his potential.

2014-01-21 18:00:00 (link to chat)Zoilo Almonte vs Alfredo Marte, who has the higher ceiling, who has the better chance of being useful in 2014 ? This is more of a sim league question, I realize that neither is likely to be that interesting in most roto leagues.
(tbwhite from San Diego)
You're right, that isn't that interesting in Roto leagues.

I'd go with Marte by default. With all the outfielders the Yankees have, it is going to be quite the logjam. Marte is slightly more likely for that reason alone to make an impact. Almonte might be the better player, but he's trapped in the wrong org to ever do anything there. (Mike Gianella)
2012-12-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Arizona's Alfredo Marte? Sudden power surge in AA, do you think he could contribute in the majors int he next few years and what is his upside?
(ttt from Manhattan)
Marte's been around for a while. Did he put things together or was this a career season? Sometimes, those happen at the minor league level too. He's tough to peg right now. (Chris Mellen)
