YearComment
2014 Due to publishing agreements, the 2014 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2014 book (available in hardcopy, e-book, and Kindle).
2013 Last year was an exciting year of development for "Max-effort Marinez." He blows batters away with his upper-90s heat and a slider that can embarrass. Most important, given his past, is a walk rate under one per two innings. At his current skill level, he should be an effective one-inning reliever, and any additional progress at finding the strike zone could make that inning come later and later.
2012 A wispy reliever who nevertheless can dial his fastball up near triple digits, Marinez was the key return from the Ozzie trade and instantly became the best power arm in the system not named Addison Reed. After a brief taste of big-league meal money in 2010, Marinez spent last season in Double-A, where he stacked strikeout victims like cordwood but handed out free passes at an alarming rate. If he can learn to throw strikes and develops a better feel for his slider, it is easy to picture big outs in his future—though admittedly, you can say the same thing about virtually every hard-throwing young reliever in the game.
2011 "Relief prospect" isn't an oxymoron, with Marinez providing a great example of why not. Armed with a fastball he can dial up to 98 and an explosive late-breaking slider, he has the weapons for a quality penster. That's the stuff that gets a guy from High-A to the majors in little more than three months. The handicaps are equally straightforward: having made only 109 appearances in five years as a pro, it isn't surprising that Marinez is plagued with inconsistent mechanics, let alone far from finished when it comes to mastering little things, like holding baserunners or fielding. His first shot at The Show ended quickly when elbow problems put him on the DL, but he recovered in time to make a pair of late-season minor-league appearances to demonstrate health. He'll come into camp with a shot at sticking, and the talent is there to make him a long-term stalking horse for the closer's role.

(Omar from Atlanta )
There are quite a few guys that intrigue me, and if you go back to my personal scouting biases/preferences that I discussed earlier, it won't be a shock who those are, and most of them are power arms like Santo Manzanillo, Fautino De Los Santos (suspension and all), Jhan Marinez and Wilking Rodriguez.
