2013 After beginning the season as the Pirates’ left fielder, Presley slumped his way into a demotion, and then suffered a concussion. His luck turned around once he returned to the majors in June, and he hit .246/.295/.456 over the final four months. The power production is nice but Presley needs to show a consistent ability to get on base—whether it's via a better average or more walks. Presley seems likely to become a fourth outfielder.
2012 Elvis puns, grit, and outs against left-handed pitching. What are three things Presley’s career will offer in high doses? After shedding the non-entity label in 2010, Presley validated his newfound status as a future major leaguer and became the Pirates' everyday left fielder down the stretch while Jose Tabata recuperated from a broken hand. Presley was not without an injury of his own, as he damaged his thumb in late July and chose to alter his swing to compensate for the condition by the time he returned in late August. He hit .276/.297/.448 from his reinsertion point onward, which resembles a line he may produce when healthy.
2011 No player in the Pirates' farm system improved his stock more in 2010 than Presley, who began the season as a Double-A fourth outfielder, ended it in the major leagues, and was named the organization's minor-league player of the year along the way. Presley will likely be returned to sender and start the season at Triple-A, since he is crowded out by other left-handed-hitting outfielders on the major-league depth chart. While he doesn't have star potential, Presley sprays line drives to all fields and plays decent defense at all three outfield spots. He projects as a major-league fourth outfielder, which is a heckuva lot better than his spot as a fourth outfielder in Altoona last April.

2013-03-20 11:00:00 (link to chat)Is Starling Marte going to break out this year? I don't see him as a great leadoff hitter, even if he can sustain a .300+ BA
(redguy12588 from Pittsburgh)
See my last... he has a ton of ability but controlling the strike zone is not one of them. People talk about guys like Braun and Trout as once-in-a-generation talents, but so was Alfonso Soriano... very few hitters can be impact players with such terrible K-BB numbers. That's not to say Marte can't or won't be an impact player this year, but let's just say I'm not giving up on Alex Presley yet, either! (Cory Schwartz)
2012-04-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)My #4 OF is Dexter Fowler. Considering swapping him out for the following waiver wire options. H2H league, speed not as valuable, keeper value irrelevant. Jordan Schafer, Juan Rivera, josh reddick, Alex Presley, Dayan viciedo, or Eric Thames. Thoughts?
(NJTomatoes from Oregon)
Yeah, if speed is devalued, I like Viciedo's power potential, Thames should post a solid average with a little power, Presley could hit for a good average and score runs leading off. (Derek Carty)
2011-06-27 14:00:00 (link to chat)What do you see as the ultimate upside for recent Pirates callups Chase d'Arnaud and Alex Presley?
(Bill from Pittsburgh)
Second-division starter; bench outfielder. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-05-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Kevin- Thanks for the chat. Thoughts on Alex Presley? 3-5 last night, up to .377/.421/.561 at Indy.
(bjealous from NYC)
Super grinder, really can hit, future 4th OF. (Kevin Goldstein)
