2013 Jeff Gray and his 33 career Triple-A saves will try to help attract fans for the Charlotte Knights, who had the second-lowest attendance in the International League last year. Who says parent clubs never do anything for their affiliates.
2012 The Mariners claimed Gray off waivers on May 13, but for two months they treated him more like a civilian on a ride-along than a member of the force. In the entire month of June, he made one appearance, for an inning, down by seven. Gray has a 93 mph fastball that he doesn't locate well, and a slider that hitters have no problems with. At this point, he can either not get work while on a major league rosterówith the waiver pickup by the Twins, he's onto his fifth organization in four seasonsóor not get work while not on a major league roster.
2011 Jeff Gray can pump flat gas at high velocity, but an early injury and subsequent struggles got him outrighted from the 40-man.
2010 If nothing else, Gray throws hard. His fastball sits in the mid-90s while touching 97, but despite being well into his late 20s he still spends a lot of his time in the minors. Velocity alone can get minor-league hitters out, but in the big leagues you need movement and a breaking ball, and in both of those regards, Gray's gifts lag behind his speed-gun readings. The Cubs hope he can figure something out, having acquired him as the name player in the Jake Fox deal.
2009 Jeff Gray pitches in the middle to upper 90s, but he's still a player stuck in Triple-A in his late 20s because the pitch is straight and is his only decent offering.
2008 Right-hander Jeff Grey is a strike-throwing reliever with good velocity but little in the way of secondary offerings
