2012 Boggs could potentially represent a new market inefficiency—a valuable bench player who doesn't hit for a lot of average or power and doesn't make a big impact on either defense or the basepaths. Still, he's posted a .389 combined on-base percentage at the Triple-A level, and as a pinch-rally-starter and backup leadoff hitter, he could make a viable spare outfielder, backing up at all three spots.
2011 A casualty of the late-season 40-man crunch, Brandon Boggs might have lost his place at the table, but the versatile outfielder with power and patience will return to Triple-A in 2011 with the skill set to force his way back into roster contention.
2010 Boggs is somewhere between useful and useless, a chasm that has killed the careers of better fourth-outfielder aspirants. He's never really been a prospect as much as a guy who does enough things well enough to seem potentially useful, someone who can play all three positions, sometimes providing modest power, draw a few walks, switch-hit. Everybody likes those things, right? Step back from the individual greenery to see what you've got, and you realize that what you have isn't a forest, it's a shrubbery.
2009 While more was expected as far as Boggs' upside when he was picked in the fourth round of the '04 draft as a toolsy prospect out of Georgia Tech, he's in danger of being an organizational soldier stretched to fulfill a utility outfielder role. Although a switch-hitter, his pop is really all from the right-hand side, and he can be overpowered by high-velocity offerings. He's stretched in center, leaving you with an outfield reserve who only sticks if he strikes his skipper's fancy.
2008 There's a whole lot to like about Boggs; he's a great athlete, a fine center fielder, has pop in his bat, and draws walks. There's also a whole lot not to like about Boggs, as he's already 25 years old, does most of his damage against lefties, and strikes out like he has an incentive in his contract to do so. Still, as a switch-hitter with defensive skills and pop, he should be able to carve out a career on the bench.

2011-05-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Break down Ron Roenicke as a manager for me. Strengths, weaknesses. Do you still like him?
(The Common Man from Getting Closer)
The Brewers have been playing way too poorly recently to give him a fair shake. He has issues with the lineup (in batting order and defensive position). For some reason, he's in love with Mark Kotsay, even going to so far as to start him in CF yesterday over Brandon Boggs. A lot of Brewers fans hate Roenicke's tendency to go for extra bases, but I'm not jumping on that yet. Doing the Tracker, I've gotten used to subconsciously timing players as they move around the field... if done right, extra bases are definitely there for the taking. Players need to be wiser about it, though.

He hasn't gotten off to a great start yet, that's for sure. (Larry Granillo)
