2014-10-23 14:00:00 (link to chat)Out of the copious amounts of #4 and #5 pitchers the Cubs have, who do you expect to start next year? (Felix Doubront, Kyle Hendricks, Wada if he resigns, Jacob Turner, Edwin Jackson, Dallas Beeler, Dan Strailey, Travis Wood)
(Pelecos from Granville)
It's a very interesting conundrum for the Cubs, and the buzz indicates that they will look to sign a front-line SP over the winter. I'm an Edwin apologist, but I think that he has run out of excuses. I think that T.Wood and K. Hendricks will both be a part of the rotation, and Doubront will either pitch his way to the bullpen or earn a spot in the rotation. I would give Beeler more time on the farm, and Turner could be a reliever in the end. Straily is the wild card.

On the jukebox: Thrice, "The Melting Point of Wax" (Doug Thorburn)
2014-02-26 19:00:00 (link to chat)who would you take if you had to chose one? Felix Doubront, or Matt Harrison for this year
(ob1 from NYC)
Doubront, I like his arm and he did very well as a starter last year. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-02-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any thoughts about Garrett Richards and Felix Doubront for the upcoming season and beyond?
(digiderek from Reno)
I like the latter more. Richards has some stuff, but doesn't really make the most of it at present. Doubz would helped by Dempster leaving, but Cap adds to the mix now, too (Paul Sporer)
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)What SPs do you like to break-out in 2014?
(Shawnykid23 from CT)
Hmm. Just spit-balling, but I'll go with Corey Luebke, Felix Doubront, Martin Perez, Jacob Turner, Zach Lee and Ricky Nolasco as some guys who will outperform their draft slots. (Ben Carsley)
2013-12-10 18:00:00 (link to chat)in the Twilight Zone where the nation and the universe come together how about a trade Peavy and 4m for Gardner
(mlee730 from Boston)
You mean if the Red Sox and Yankees decide to hug it out the way the mail carrier and the dog did at the end of The Naked Gun?

Brett Gardner is probably an upgrade on Daniel Nava because of the former's defense, but not a huge upgrade and not enough for Boston to trade an asset like Jake Peavy. Even if the Red Sox thought that Felix Doubront or Brandon Workman could slot into the rotation, starting pitching depth is always at a premium. The deal would be great for the Yankees, but I think Peavy could bring back more in trade for Boston. (Mike Gianella)
2013-10-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)Hey bro, what do you think Jake Peavy will do if he has to start game 7? And, anticipating your typical pessimistic self-loathing Red Sox Fan answer, well then what should the Red Sox do instead?
(Broseph from Broronto)
They traded for him for a reason, and yes, he has a 7.11 ERA in the postseason, but I don't think he's really that bad a pitcher. It wouldn't shock me if he went five innings and gave up two runs.

Also wouldn't shock me if the team decided to start Felix Doubront instead. (Matthew Kory)
2013-03-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Best career value: Felix Doubront, Martin Perez, or Kyle Gibson?
(Tom from GA)
Very tough. I'll say Gibson, but man that is difficult. (Paul Sporer)
2012-11-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)Early speculation on some overvalued and undervalued players for next spring?
(Andrew from Las Vegas)
As much as I hate to say it, Mike Trout may well be overrated next year. I imagine there'll be some talk of him as number-one overall. In deep leagues, Josh Hamilton probably. Pitchers: Cueto, Miley, Harrison. Underrated, hmm, maybe Rajai Davis, Felix Doubront, Marco Estrada, Alex Cobb, and Mitch Moreland (again) (Derek Carty)
2012-03-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's your take on Felix Doubront ? Does he get a hold of the 5th starter spot and what to expect ? I think he's a real sleeper.
(Spirou from Somewhere near the Big O)
What's the opposite of sleeper? An awaker? Whatever it is, I'm not bullish on Doubront. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-03-15 12:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you think breaks camp in the Red Sox rotation?
(Ryan Glass from The District)
Barring injury or trade I think Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, and Bard are locks. Felix Doubront is out of options and I think they'll try him in the rotation to start the year--just to see if it works. (R.J. Anderson)
2011-07-21 16:00:00 (link to chat)Beltran, Tim Byrdak and $6M to the Red Sox for Ryan Lavarnway and Felix Doubront. Is this feasible for both sides?
(Liam from Whippleville, NY)
That would create a depth problem at catcher for Boston and because Beltran can't be offered arbitration after the season, the Sox have not to show for it after the season unless they win a ring. Their offense isn't the problem; it's their pitching. Adding Beltran would be overkill, IMO. (Jason Collette)
2010-12-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)Word from Gammons is the Mets would eat about $10 million of Beltran's last year to move him to Boston, or take $10 million of bad contracts in return, like maybe Daisuke. What do you think?
(Colin Jaffe from New Jersey)
I just wrote about acquiring Magglio Ordonez or Josh Willingham for left field at Red Sox Beacon, but Beltran would be a fine fit as well. His defense is diminished, but he would be playing in left anyway, and it would open up a rotation spot for Boston to either (A) put Felix Doubront in or (B) acquire a starting pitcher to fill out their rotation. It also helps the Mets, as someone like Matsuzaka gives them starting pitcher depth at a good price--Dice-K makes $2M less than Oliver Perez, and is far, far superior--in a park and league where his stuff should play better than at Fenway. It would be win-win, if that's the case. (Marc Normandin)
2010-12-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)How intent, if at all , is BOS in moving Dice-K? He might make a nice pickup forCubs in a swap of so-so contracts.
(Matt from Chicago)
I don't think they are desperate to move him or anything, but he does represent the only rotation spot they can mess with until 2014, so if the right opportunity presents itself they may do it. They may be a little more loathe to do so now that Casey Kelly is gone, as Felix Doubront is the lone high-minors pitching prospect they have left, but they are definitely listening if people ask. (Marc Normandin)
