2009-02-11 14:00:00 (link to chat)Should the Indians count on anything from Anthony Reyes this season? Maybe 'count on' is bad wording - 'be optimistic about' at least?
(ChuckR from Addison, IL)
I think so. He's a talented pitcher who just needed a change of scenery. I thought the Indians made a great trade in getting him for next to nothing. (John Perrotto)
2008-11-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Have you heard any updates on whether Aaron Laffey and/or Anthony Reyes will be ready for Spring Training? Reyes' shutdown seemed precautionary and less serious, but I'm not convinced Laffey will even pitch in 2009.
(buffum from Austin TX)
Both expected to be ready for Spring Training. I was about to say Winter Haven, but that's not right any more. I can't imagine how many times I'm going to say "Dodgertown" this spring. (Will Carroll)
2008-10-09 14:00:00 (link to chat)Homer Bailey is worthless right now... I'd look at whatever the Indians gave for Anthony Reyes. Maybe Bailey fetches a little more but not much.
(Yanick from Brooklyn)
Very good point. The Tribe gave up an oldish minor-league reliever named Luis Perdomo - live arm, but only in Double A at age 24. Christina Kahrl hit this well here: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7866#SLN (Jay Jaffe)
2008-07-29 16:00:00 (link to chat)Any chance the Cards pick up the lefty reliever for whom Tony La Russa seems to be pining? What do you think are the chances that Mark Mulder pitches effectively at the big league level again? Less than 50%?
(P Bu from St. Louis)
Yeah, I think so. I was surprised they didnt get that in return for Anthony Reyes, but his stock had dropped so much they were lucky to get anything. (I can't find this, but didn't the Cards and Indians talk about a Reyes for Cliff Lee deal?) Mulder? Less than 50. 20? (Will Carroll)
2008-07-29 16:00:00 (link to chat)http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=winter_meetings&entryID=3140986 4:13 p.m., from Jerry Crasnick • Chris Capuano isn't the only left-handed starter on the Cardinals' shopping list. St. Louis has talked to Cleveland about Cliff Lee, with Anthony Reyes and/or catching prospect Bryan Anderson mentioned as possibilities to return to the Indians. Arizona recently talked to the Indians about Lee, but the teams don't look like a match anymore now that the Diamondbacks have traded outfielder Carlos Quentin to the White Sox.
(SC from Rochester)
Crasnick! Love that guy - knew I'd seen it somewhere, but I'm not an INsider, so much not be Googlable. (Is that a word?) (Will Carroll)
2008-06-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Oliver Perez for Anthony Reyes?
(WhatDude77 from Roslyn, NY)
Done. (Dayn Perry)
2008-04-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Anthony Reyes in the bullpen? He's pitched well so far, and velocity is way up.
(MikeJordan23 from BK)
When I watched him pitch a few times last year, Reyes was always the sort of guy who -- I don't know, was like a good character actor who was struggling to find the right script. I can see him working pretty effectively out of the bullpen. (Nate Silver)
2008-01-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of the Cardinals offering Chris Duncan, Anthony Reyes and your choice of Wellemeyer, Thompson or Jiminez for Tom Gorzelany?
(Jack from (Charleston, WV))
As much as I really, really like Gorzelanny, that's too much to give up. But then I can't shake the anticipation I have of seeing the Cards line up a trio of lefty-hitting howitzers in their outfield at some point: Rick Ankiel, Duncan, and Colby Rasmus. That's just a fun bunch to have at your disposal. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-01-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)What outlook do you have for Anthony Reyes in 08? He still has a lot of talent in his arm, I just think he's been horribly managed in St. Louis. Where do you think he'll end up (rotation, pen, out of town)?
(Rob from Newton, NJ)
It's a tough proposition, because TLR and Dunc have a much better track record fixing veterans they've just met than kids they don't always have the patience to sort out. Not that Reyes has anything like Jose Rijo's upside, but I wouldn't be surprised if he thrives after a move, very much as Rijo did. (Christina Kahrl)
