2012-04-23 14:00:00 (link to chat)I love the Daily Hit List, at least now that the Nats are near the top. If they don't start hitting, though, I don't see that as sustainable. It appears that the Nats are trying to get Tyler Moore to play LF so he can provide some of the needed pop. Assuming that some of that translates as it has every time he has moved up, would it make sense to have him learn LF in the bigs so that we no longer have to see Xavier Nady or even Roger Bernadina?
(HalfStreet from Fairfax VA)
Thanks! The Hit List is fun to write, so I'm glad you're enjoying it. I understand we are endeavoring to add comments soon so that should make it even more interactive.

I agree the Nats will need some more offense if they want to make the next level, proverbially speaking. My guess though is that any additional offensive boost will come in trade. Unless you think Bryce Harper can play in the majors now. I'm dubious of that, but I'd bow to Kevin Goldstein if he has a different answer. (Matthew Kory)
2012-04-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Roger Bernadina has a small but loyal fan base in DC, but "The Shark" seems headed for waivers at some point this season, because he is out of options. Is it most likely that 1) someone would trade for him, 2) he would be claimed off waivers for no return, or 3) he passes through waivers and plays in Syracuse? +1/2St.
(HalfStreet from Fairfax VA)
Every team has a Roger Bernadina or two in their system, so there's no real reason to trade for one. Maybe he gets claimed off waivers if a team has a pressing need for depth following an injury, but I think it's more likely he passes through waivers. (Jay Jaffe)
2011-04-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)There has been some criticism launched at Mike Rizzo regarding the Nats bench (Hairston, Nix, Stairs...), in that it is a bunch of useless retreads rather than prospects. His response is that a team can't be all youth, and the vets have a job "to teach these good young prospect players how to be Major Leaguers" Is this all bunk?
(Charlie from Bethesda, MD)
Does "prospects" in this instance equal Roger Bernadina, 27 years old? Wilson Ramos isn't good enough? Nix, Stairs, and Hairston have their uses, while Alex Cora does have a tremendous reputation in the game, so maybe there is something to having him there even if he can't contribute much on the field. I think calling the group useless is unfair. (Steven Goldman)
2011-03-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Corey, Which pitching and hitting players do you find to be the breakout player that no one has heard of?
(Will from Kentucky)
I'm pushing in my chips with Joel Peralta this year. On the hitting side, I could see Roger Bernadina surprising some people this year. (Cory Schwartz)
