2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)Who is going to have an April like me this year? I believe the answer is no one because I am the best Mr April of all the Mr Aprils. Also, Shelley Duncan and I are going out looking for women. Who can make us look better as the ugly friend we bring along to raise our appeal? Hunter Pence? Pedroia without a hat and eye black? Thanks man. Don't rule out a comeback from me. Marcus Thames has been teaching me plate discipline.
(Chris Shelton from Bush Leagues)
You're in the early lead for "best fake name" in this chat. Well done. It's impossible to predict who's going to essentially experience a statistical aberration in April, so your guess is as good as mine. With that in mind, let's go with Juan Uribe, for no reason.

You can't do better in the ugly department than Shelley Duncan. Shelley Duncan is uglier than Billy Hamilton is fast. Give my best to Marcus. (Ben Carsley)
2013-04-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)I know this has been the question with the rays for the past 4 years, but why does the offense always seem to non-existent? I get annoyed at these small moves that don't do much (Luke Scott, Kelly Johnson, Cliff Floyd, Shelley Duncan, etc.) but are the only moves the team makes.
(Steve from Tampa, FL)
Park factors play a role.

The free-agent hitters available in their price range tend to be either: old, hurt, coming off a bad season, or all of the above. I believe that offense has still ranked within the top five or six in the AL over the past four seasons by park-adjusted numbers, too. Solid given the circumstances. (R.J. Anderson)
2012-03-15 12:00:00 (link to chat)Who should win the Indians LF carousel? Who has the best chance to stick?
(SaberTJ from Cleveland, OH)
My unofficial survey of who is fighting for the job: Shelley Duncan, Aaron Cunningham, Ryan Spilborghs, Felix Pie, Fred Lewis, and Russ Canzler.

I cannot envision Canzler playing a tolerable corner outfield, so Iíll say not him. Same result with Pie for different reasons. From there, you have Lewis and three righty bats, but Duncan and Cunningham are both out of options. So I guess the Indians might keep those two and store Lewis and Spilborghs in Triple-A for depth. I might opt for a platoon between Lewis and whichever of the two righties youíre higher on. (R.J. Anderson)
2009-11-02 15:00:00 (link to chat)Who would you sub for Melky? Do you see this having an impact on the series (other than Girardi "accidentally"giving Guzman at bats?)
(Eli from Brooklyn)
I think it has to be Guzman. If you're going to be playing Gardner, you'll want the PR back. I don't think Shelley Duncan has more roster value, and no infielder does. If it's Cervelli...I mean, you start to look around for Abe Rothstein, you know? (Joe Sheehan)
2009-07-01 14:00:00 (link to chat)Said lefty-smasher would need to be appreciably better than Shelley Duncan for it to be worth the Yankees while to trade prospects and/or pay more money to get this player. Duncan isn't good, but one thing he can apparently do is hit some dingers off of LHP. If all we're talking about is a righty part of a part-time platoon spot, gosh... what do you really want to give up for that?
(Rob from Andover, CT)
Not much more than the nothing thrown at the Pirates to pry Hinske loose. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-05-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)How can a team that has both Tomko and Berroa on its 25-man roster be serious about winning?
(Frank from Waterbury)
They think they're serious. The Yankees just have a dearth of resources in certain areas. I sort of understand the Tomko thing as an attempt to catch lightning in a bottle ("The scouting reports say he's developed a new pitch, the 'dipsy-doodle chicken-ball' and he's a whole new guy!") that can be tried and quickly dispensed with. Berroa I don't get. Not that Shelley Duncan is Babe Ruth, but he's hitting like him at the moment, and you'd think that his odd home run off the bench (or Juan Miranda's, as mediocre as I think he is) would be more valuable than anything Berroa might do, especially when the team could PH for the catcher in the eighth inning of every game as long as Posada is out. (Steven Goldman)
2008-03-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Bump Abreu. He was brutal against LHP last year. Shelley Duncan could take 10-20 games from him in platoon.
(pytheian from Brooklyn, NY)
The people have spoken: Abreu is to be dumped. Someone notify his people immediately. (Marc Normandin)
