| 2008-01-17 14:00:00 | You call the Jays 3rd place also rans but having the best defence and comparable pitching to Boston and NY has to count for something doesn't it? Is there offense that bad? (Taylor from Toronto) | The Blue Jays are one of those collections of famous guys who don't quite add up to being as good an actual baseball team; it's like the Orioles after they added Fred Lynn and Lee Lacy, or any edition of the Autry Angels. Nobody who's really good is reliable, and nobody who's reliable is really reliably good. The best hope that team has is that Marcum and McGowan continue to blossom, and that Jesse Litsch is better than a strike-throwing guy with no true out pitch. (Christina Kahrl) |
| 2008-01-08 14:00:00 | I'm having an arguement with one of the Bostonians I work with as to the misplaced Jim Rice love. I told him Dwight Evans was a better player over the course of his career than Rice. Am I right? (mferrin from Washington DC) | Yes. JAWS has Evans (91.7) well ahead of Rice (69.4), and even Fred Lynn (68.3) isn't far off the pace.
OK folks, gotta take a time out to do a radio hit in San Diego (1360 AM Sports XTRA). You can listen here:

I'll be back to take one or two more questions but I'll have to run soon after. (Jay Jaffe) |
