BP Chats

DateQuestionAnswer
2012-05-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)Miguel Cairo comes off the DL for the Reds today. Fans are pessimistically expecting them to send Todd Frazier down instead of DFAing Willie Harris. Cause for concern?
(Hobart from Washington, DC)
Id buy it if the stat lines were reversed. As is, I think Frazier stays. Everyone can joke about Dusty Bakers love of veterans, but hell play young players if they produce, and Frazier is doing just that right now. (R.J. Anderson)
2011-04-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Willie Harris has had a fantastic start for the Mets - is there any chance it's for real, and the Mets have found something?
(jhp228 from Forest Hills)
I've always rooted for Willie, and after five years doing a convincing impression of a non-hitter, from 2007-2009 he hit well enough (.252/.352/.401) to have value as a multi-position sub. At 33, though, I'm afraid that's all that he is. Maybe the Mets capture some fluke one-year explosion, but I very much doubt that will be the case. (Steven Goldman)
2010-03-18 14:00:00 (link to chat)Nats now have a gaping hole in right field with some 'meh' options - move Dunn back to the OF (who's gonna play first), move Kennedy out there and let Desmond start, play Mike Morse, play Willie Harris, sign Dye... what do you think they should do?
(Charlie from Bethesda)
It seems Maxwell is their first option in right but signing Dye is definitely a possibility. Somehow, someway, Willie Harris will work his way into the picture because he produces everytime he ever gets a chance to play. (John Perrotto)
2010-03-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)Jermaine Dye had an off-year after a good 2008. Most in the Nats Constituency seem averse to adding Dye to replace Dukes. Do you think Dye has another good year left, at least one better than Maxwell, Bernadina or Willie Harris could provide this year?
(HalfStreet from Fairfax VA)
I sort of like the idea of adding Dye to the mix. Whether it's because I don't think Harris or Bernadina should be everyday players in a corner, or because Maxwell's ability to stay healthy is far from a sure thing, or that a multi-month spin with Dye might get his career back in gear and yield something of value at the deadline... I like it. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-12-04 13:30:00 (link to chat)Who's the best option for the Reds to sign or trade for in left field: Milton Bradley, Jermaine Dye, Willie Harris, Delmon Young, or someone else?
(Mister Redlegs from Athens, GA)
I have a thing somewhere half-written...five FAs I wouldn't sign...Bradley's on the list. He's not durable, doesn't/can't really play the OF any longer, coming off a peak season. He was a good player at bouncing-around prices; at some 3/35 price, I'd pass. What about moving Encarnacion out there and getting a third baseman instead? Edwin's defense is that bad, no? (Joe Sheehan)
2008-03-25 14:00:00 (link to chat)Big logjam in the middle infield for the Nats and it appears Trader Jim's having trouble finding a taker for Lopez. What do you think will happen?
(macman from DC)
I'm not sure "big logjam" is the term I'd use, but "corpse-choked gully" would be too cruel. We're talking Ronnie Belliard and Cristian Guzman, and I wouldn't want to bank on either. The real problem is that Lopez really isn't much of a shortstop, so any proposition of using him again as the swing middle infielder to cover for whichever starter breaks first runs up against that. Teams looking for a shortstop (like the Orioles) shouldn't put too much value on Lopez, and haven't.

I guess I don't see the depth, in case they deal Lopez. Pete Orr? Willie Harris? We're talking second base types who can't really play short either. Aaron Boone can't really play third. It makes for a potentially oddly disjointed bench. (Christina Kahrl)
