Who should start, who are trade bait? (jm010e from Vegas)	I would move Bloomquist, for sure--depending on him to keep it up is a bet I wouldn't want to make, and one you don't have to make, given your depth there. Barney probably won't bring back much in a deal, whether he is good or not, so dangling one of the other two to see what you can get would be the right play. (Marc Normandin)
2010-11-02 13:00:00	Why do so many people complain about the WS winner because they weren't built to last? Why should that matter? They have a shiny new flag and you don't. Too many screeds are written with the downside of the Giants as the main points, instead of a great late-season and post-season run. The fact that we shouldn't expect a repeat next year should be a postscript at most, no? In other words, don't forget to celebrate the baseball before you skewer the managerial approach. Am I wrong? If there was such a thing as Marlins fans I would pose the question of whether they cried over the fact that the team couldn't compete in 1998 after winning it all in 1997, or if they basked in the warm glowing warming glow of a world series title. I think a lot of this stems from the fact that people don't like certain teams to have the upper hand on theirs, or because certain people don't agree with the style of the Giants club. I know a lot of people like to make fun of Brian Sabean and so the initial reaction is to detract from him instead of giving the Giants credit. I also think people just have a hard time believing how a team with Aubrey Huff, Cody Ross, Freddy Sanchez, et al, managed to win a world series, so the kneejerk reaction is to say "But you won't do it again!" As I said earlier, the story here should be how dominant that entire pitching staff looked. The Giants will not score a lot of runs over the next couple of years, but that is the best 5-man starting rotation in baseball. (Eric Seidman)

Every market has losers, and he's one of them in that there were only so many people who were going to get in on Holliday and Bay and decide to see Damon as a viable fall-back option. It would have been neat if he'd been a one-year addition for the Giants instead of their signing Freddy Sanchez and Aubrey Huff, but one of the problems with being a historical actor is that you sometimes lose out because of historical actions. Damon seemed to keep waiting for a deal that wasn't there, and other teams, players, and agents weren't waiting on him. (Christina Kahrl)

2009-07-30 14:00:00	What's your take on yesterday's Pirates trades, and the earlier LaRoche trade? Just when I get excited, Keith Law rains on the parade by saying Alderson is likely a #4-5 starter. To me, it looks like wheel and deal Neal did a reasonably good job in getting potentially useable parts for LaRoche, Wilson and Sanchez. Good guys all, but none of them were likely to be a part of the next relevant Bucs team. (George Aiken from Forbes Ave)	I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have a lot of respect for Keith as a baseball man and an old friend but I've had different reports on Alderson. He's pitched very well in AA as a 20-year-old and I believe he is now the best pitching prospect in the Pirates' organization and No. 2 overall behind Pedro Alvarez. All in all, Wheel and Deal Neal did well to get as much back as he did for guys who, beyond Freddy Sanchez, are spare parts in other teams' eyes. (John Perrotto)

Gianst fans were pissed about Alderson leaving, but with Cain, Lincecum, and Zito's contract and Sanchez it seems like we don't have a ton of room in our rotation anyway? Your thoughts? (Dan from San Francisco)	I think the Giants haven't won a World Series since before anyone on the current roster was born, and that they upgraded their offense ever so slightly at two positions in order to improve their runs per game. That helps out their wonderful pitching staff and increases the chances that they pull out another win or two from the remaining schedule. It sucks to trade away that kind of player for Sanchez, but at the same time, they have the kind of rotation that if they get to the playoffs, they can do some serious damage even to superior clubs. I really don't know how much of a market there is for Sanchez; whether you consider him a weak-hitting third baseman or a weak-fielding second baseman, he's really only a patch, and people might keep tripping over the batting title when it comes to expectations of his valuation. Can he be useful? Of course, sort of like Casey Blake as a patch at any of the four corners, and if you're in win-now mode. But that narrows the field of candidates considerably. (Christina Kahrl)

I do know, however, that it wasn't Aaron Crow who said there had to be a window of just 10 weeks between draft and signing deadline, and it wasn't Aaron Crow who gets compensation for not being signed. He's 30, plays a position at which guys age poorly, and if he hits .285 he kills you. It's a pretty irrelevant move.
