DateQuestionAnswer
2017-08-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are your personal top 5 favorite prospects to follow as a fan?
(Kim from NYC)
Oh gosh, I'm not enough of a prospect guy for this. Willie Calhoun. Logan Shore. Franklin Barreto. Brent Honeywell. Nick Senzel. (Matthew Trueblood)
2017-07-06 12:00:00 (link to chat)Asking about a couple of guys who just mash with the bat in Willie Calhoun and Rhys Hoskins. Obviously the defensive profile makes them difficult to run too far up the list, but the bats seem very potent. Would we have seen them had we extended this list a bit further?
(John from Phoenix)
More than a bit further to get to those two, but we'd get there before I ran out of spots I think. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)is there are particular prospect or position you would target in the all star break trades for the white sox? my call is that there doesn't seem to be much corner power on its way. maybe Willie Calhoun from the dodgers as a LF?
(a.j. from las vegas)
I don't think it's wise to target a specific are of need when you're shopping for prospects. That said, unless something changes drastically with Quintana over the next month, I wouldn't expect the White Sox to get much top end talent at the deadline. Calhoun is a bat first second baseman, which is weird to say out loud, but also pretty much falls in line with the players the White Sox acquire. (Collin Whitchurch)
2017-05-22 23:00:00 (link to chat)Odds on a Willie Calhoun call up this year?
(JoshuaGB from Chicago)
Seems likely, doesn't it?

Red light! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V-CWmLBhAA (Wilson Karaman)
2016-12-08 23:00:00 (link to chat)Rank these prospects for 5x5 keep forever dynasty?: Ian Happ, Ronald Guzman, Willie Calhoun, Ramiel Tapia, and Yusniel Diaz
(terps993 from Maryland)
Tapia, Happ, Calhoun, Diaz, Guzman. Note that I think I might like Diaz better'n Willie at their peaks, but Diaz's path is longer enough than it costs him the rankings edge. (Wilson Karaman)
2016-07-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Willie Calhoun seems to be hitting for far more power this year, with a far worse average. Strikeouts don't seem to be too far up though, can he hit for 20 homer power with a .280 average?
(Josh from LA)
Interesting that so many of these types of players have come up today. I've always liked Calhoun, it's understandable that the lack of position scared some people off, but I haven't been at all surprised he has been a middle-rounds guy who mashed from last year's draft.

He'll have to prove it at every level because the bat has to carry and the defensive profile still, even, might be up in the air. But there's big league hitting tools. I think 20 homers and .280 average (genuine 60-grade hit and power production grades) combined are a little lofty. (Adam McInturff)
2016-06-13 23:00:00 (link to chat)Willie Calhoun is having a pretty impressive offensive season as one of the youngest players in the Texas League. What's your assessment of his future?
(Dave from CA)
Yeah, took him a hot minute to adjust to the level, but he's really ripped the ball of late. Not remotely surprised, I loved his bat last year. He was a mess defensively last summer at Rancho, though, and as of the latest report I heard a few weeks ago there's been progress but not a ton. Still unclear if he can stick on the dirt, but if he can there's a bat-first starting profile.

"Notes" from last August: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=27320 (Wilson Karaman)
2016-06-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Though he's not getting any hype, Willie Calhoun is having a great season in Double A. Do you have any thoughts on this guy?
(APJ74137 from Tulsa)
he can really hit, and pretty impressive he's already doing it at that high a level. I just don't know where he plays. Could be an awesome bench bat, though. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-03-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)I need 1 more player for my fantasy minor league team. The choice is a SP prospect (Kolby Allard, Amir Garrett, Josh Hader, Grant Holmes, Yadier Alvarez or Dylan Cease), position player (Dominic Smith or Trent Clark) or lottery ticket (Willie Calhoun). Which SP and position player would you choose and also your overall pick, taking into account not only ceiling/floor but also proximity to the bigs (the closer the better).
(paladin from philippines)
I really like a bunch of those dudes. Calhoun can be a special hitter, but he's a butcher defensively and loses value if (when) he moves to the OF. Allard and Garrett are two really high-upside arms, and Alvarez could turn into any pitcher you can think of (good or bad). I probably go Clark there, but you've got options depending on what you're into. (Wilson Karaman)
