DateQuestionAnswer
2017-08-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can you name some of the big names you expect to be called up when rosters expand? Anybody you're looking forward to seeing?
(Paddy from Ireland )
As a Phillies fan, I'm kind of excited to see what JP Crawford can do, if anything at all. Brent Honeywell, for the Rays, is going to be interesting too (if they decide to pull the trigger, and that's no sure thing in Tampa Bay). A lot of my favorite guys -- Moncada, Giolito, Rhys Hoskins, et al -- have already been called up before rosters expand, so this is a tough one for me.

I hope some team does a hyper-aggressive promotion, like Nick Gordon or Brendan Rodgers or something. (Trevor Strunk)
2017-09-12 23:00:00 (link to chat)Meg, What is Rhys Hoskins' ceiling?
(Bloodybaboon from New York)
High? Very high up there? Taller than the Empire State Building-- shorter than the Cascades. Realistically, we're probably looking at it. I wouldn't think he'll hit home runs at quite this rate going forward (in the time it has taken me to type this, he has homered again, probably. Unreal.), but this looks pretty real. The contact is good, the weird outfield experiment seems to be nearing an end. He looks to have settled a lot of questions. This or something like it over a season would be a pretty nifty ceiling, and it's cool for Phillies fans to have this to root for. (Megan Rowley)
2017-07-31 23:00:00 (link to chat)If I have Victor Robles, Ronald Acuna, Rhys Hoskins, Eloy Jimenez, Kyle Tucker, Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr on my minor league dynasty roster, who do I drop, if anyone, to add Bo Bichette?
(Steve from AZ)
Uh...I think I speak for all of us when I say $#%& YOU! I dunno man, trade one of those dudes (Soto? Tatis? Hoskins?) for an awesome player, immediately pick up Bichette, cackle, remember you're supposed to act like you've been there before, take a breath, compose yourself, lose control, cackle again. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-07-06 12:00:00 (link to chat)Asking about a couple of guys who just mash with the bat in Willie Calhoun and Rhys Hoskins. Obviously the defensive profile makes them difficult to run too far up the list, but the bats seem very potent. Would we have seen them had we extended this list a bit further?
(John from Phoenix)
More than a bit further to get to those two, but we'd get there before I ran out of spots I think. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-06-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)Understanding that Bellinger is an outlier - who are some 1B prospects currently in the minors ready to contribute at a MLB level?
(Baseballdeity from Chi Town)
Bellinger is a literal unicorn. Rhys Hoskins and Dom Smith are probably both as ready as they're going to be. (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-05-15 17:00:00 (link to chat)Rhys Hoskins is smashing and bashing with great obp and k/bb. Do you see a successful mlb career in his future?
(Snickers from Sharon (MA))
Yes. I see him as a solid every day player for a few years, even if he is never a top-echelon superstar. (Mike Gianella)
2017-05-22 23:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Rhys Hoskins from a fantasy perspective?
(Chad from MA)
At some point dudes who hit are hitters, right? Certainly worth a speculative add at this point wherever it makes sense format-wise to see if he gets a shot this year and can translate it. If nothing else he's provided us with a periodically helpful reminder that not everything who hits well in a hitter's park and moves up will automatically start immediately sucking thereafter.

The Scientist dub on the back end of that Wailing Souls cut is just delightful, btw. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-05-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Never all that heralded coming up, but it's hard to ignore what Rhys Hoskins is doing to AAA pitching... average, power, walks, not a ton of strikeouts. What do you think the future has in store for him?
(Chris from NJ)
These guys are always tricky because the line between Role 5 first baseman and role 4s is so thin. I like Hoskins but you have to hit a ton as a RHH first baseman to hold down the fort. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-04-28 13:30:00 (link to chat)I picked up Rhys Hoskins in my 20-team dynasty league. Smart move? Way premature? Bad move?
(Patrick from Canada)
I'm honestly shocked he wasn't taken before recently since he smashed 38 homers last year. Not premature, no, but I'm not going to go to the mat for Hoskins. First base profiles are tough and I'm not sure his tools make him anything more than a platoon type for it, which isn't an ideal use of a roster spot for most teams. Always possible he overshoots that and it's fine to gamble on those guys in deep leagues. (Craig Goldstein)
2017-04-28 13:30:00 (link to chat)Being offered Blake Rutherford for Rhys Hoskins. Crazy not to accept, right? Then why do I feel a little unsure, given that all Hoskins has done is hit the last two years? Essentially - who's gonna be the best bat? 17-team dynasty league, 340+ minor leaguers rostered. Thanks!
(Ted from Wilmington)
I'd take Rutherford pretty quick (Craig Goldstein)
2016-10-06 14:00:00 (link to chat)Can Dylan Cozens or Rhys Hoskins make enough contact at the major league level for their power to show?
(Kingpin from Grinnell, IA)
Hoskins has less power, but more feel. He's also older and a first baseman. Internally, I am getting better reports on Cozens than I have in the past (or that I've seen from him in person), but I just wouldn't be surprised if he is a slugging-heavy .750 OPS guy in LHV next year. The back end of the Phillies Top Ten is going to be very fluid, depending on how you want to weight floor versus upside. The copout answer is both end up somewhere in the fringy/second-division starter range, (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-09-08 19:00:00 (link to chat)Why isn't Rhys Hoskins getting more love from the fantasy community? I am driving the bus. All aboard!
(Ray from Nj)
Context matters. Especially in the case of Hoskins and Dylan Cozens. Reading is a notorious hitters haven that has inflated home run totals for a number of prospects in recent years. Here's the other problem. The bar for a first basemen to be relevant in a standard mixed leagues is so high. I'm just not intrigued by Hoskins at all from a fantasy standpoint. Sorry. (George Bissell)
2016-08-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Has Dom smith's 2016 changed your outlook on him at all? Personally I'm a big fan, think he can do .290/350/.460
(Ricky from Umass )
I am a little surprised it took a full hour to get a Dom question. So I saw him in April and there was a bit more pull side raw in BP, and that jibes with reports I have gotten since then. We are talking like 55 raw though, and hey, if he taps into that given his hit tool, that plays. It's still an extreme opposite field approach though, so I do wonder if the power does play, the two weeks where he went off notwithstanding. The body is still a concern of course, and I think you can get him out with soft stuff away/hard stuff in. He could definitely put up that line, that's an everyday first baseman, but if he is only .280/.340/.440, you get James Loney. And he still has to get to that. I had him as likely 45 coming into the season, may get bumped to a 50 this offseason. That's a guy that will be in discussion for a spot at the back of the 101. But to tie it back in with an earlier topic, this isn't Rhys Hoskins pop at this level. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-08-11 14:00:00 (link to chat)Could you please rank these prospects by offensive potential only, disregarding defense: Matt Chapman, Dylan Cozens, Rhys Hoskins, Christin Stewart, Bobby Bradley, and Dan Vogelbach?
(cracker73 from Florida )
Off the top of my head: Vogelbach, Bradley, Cozens, Stewart, Hoskins, Chapman. (J.P. Breen)
2015-12-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Rhys Hoskins an org guy, MLB regular, or star. Same question for Jeimer Candelario. Thanks Chris.
(sbnbaseball from NYC)
I think he's closer to an org guy than MLB regular. A nice bench bat, perhaps. Candelario probably needs to change organizations. (Christopher Crawford)
