2016-12-05 20:00:00 (link to chat)Best first base prospect in the minors? Highest ceiling? Highest floor? Whos your favorite? Ok, thats enough questions wrapped in one.
(Fred from CA)
First base? I mean off the top of my head...Gallo or Reed would have the highest ceilings...Cody Bellinger might have the safest floor. He can rake. My favorite is Rowdy Tellez or Dan Vogelbach (I mean technically he's a first baseman, right?) (George Bissell)
2016-11-22 20:00:00 (link to chat)What can you tell us about Rowdy Tellez and do you think will EE probably leaving Toronto does he have a clear path to 1B in 2018 with only Smoak in front of him ?
(Buddy from Concord, NH)
I like Rowdy, and he's exactly the kind of power dude that the Blue Jays have an affinity for and have done well with. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he's playing in Toronto in 2018.

Stipulation that first base-only profiles are tough etc. etc. etc. (Jarrett Seidler)
2016-09-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)What hat will Rowdy Tellez wear on his Hall of Fame plaque?
(rolewiii from Rust Belt)
His high school cap. (Brendan Gawlowski)
2016-08-11 14:00:00 (link to chat)Will Rowdy Tellez solve his issues Vs. LH to allow him a chance to play everyday in Toronto? or Adam Lind type?
(Jeb from Johnson City)
There's just so much pressure on his bat to be special. I don't think he projects to be an everyday guy. As you said, he's only hitting .245/.328/.382 against southpaws, and that doesn't project to get better as the quality of left-handers improve. (J.P. Breen)
2016-08-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)I know they're completely different players, but between Richard Urena and Rowdy Tellez who do you think contributes more at the big league level? Thanks
(Nate from SLC)
Oh that's a pretty good question. Next year? Probably Tellez. Urena is a MUCH better prospect, but not sure how much he's going to play in 2017. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-08-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Rowdy Tellez is up to .295/.387/.499 after a brutal start to the season. He is walking almost 13% of the time, while only striking out 18% (with 16 homers to boot). He is just 21 years young. While he undoubtedly has a "bad body", and is likely to be a DH, is there nothing to like in his profile, given his age and inexperience at the level? Admittedly, I've only scouted his stat line--is he someone that you have to watch in person to pick out his flaws? Some have said he has a long swing or one that can't handle high velocity...is there any way he can make it work? His slash line at his age just seems excellent, and I would think some AA pitchers can hit the mid to high 90's...does Rowdy have a chance at a big league future?
(Walligator from Toronto)
I think he has a chance to be an average DH. That's the good news. The bad news is that I don't think he has any chance to be anything more than that, because of all the things you mentioned in the comment. There are those who are higher -- plenty of them, really -- but this type of body/skillset just doesn't work out very often. I hope I'm wrong. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-08-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Rowdy Tellez. Seems like he took a step forward this year.
(Travis from Bos)
This is the second straight year that he has taken a step forward and that is promising. The bat is going to play but he has started to answer some of the questions behind the plate. I won't say that he'll ever be average but he has put in the work to keep himself from being a liability. I'm in on Tellez. (James Fisher)
2016-06-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Chris, with the article on state of the First Base position this morning, can you talk about the position as it currently sits in the minor leagues? It seems like there are some promising bats coming up, but do any fit the traditional first base profile? I'm thinking guys like Dom Smith, Josh Naylor, Dan Vogelbach, Rowdy Tellez, Ronald Guzman, Casey Gillaspie, Josh Ockimey, etc... Thanks!!
(Matthew from KY)
It's definitely in a better place than before. I'm not sold on guys like Vogelbach and Tellez, but I love Smith, I really like Gillaspie and Ockimey is really intriguing. Not a position I love being "loaded" because, well, first base, but it's nice to see some prospects there. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-05-18 19:00:00 (link to chat)Can we get your thoughts on some diverse group of prospects: Rowdy Tellez, Ronald Guzman, Jake Gatewood, Tyler O'Neill, & Ti'Quan Forbes? Should we be buying or concerned from there early season performance?
(Bob from Northern Hemisphere)
I'm a huge Tellez guy. He's 21 and I think the power is coming. I also like the approach at the plate, he's walked nearly as many times as he's struck out this season. Obviously he's a big dude, so that's going to be something to monitor but the swing and approach are there for me. (George Bissell)
2015-01-15 18:00:00 (link to chat)Hey, thanks for the chat! What's your take on Rowdy Tellez? Is he someone we should be monitoring? He really came a long way in the 2nd half of last year.
(Ryan from Ontario)
I'm pretty suspicious of his ability to develop into a viable MLB prospect down the line. There's certainly raw power but I have only limited comfort with the hit tool projection, and zero comfort with the rest of the tools. He warrants keeping an eye on from a curiosity standpoint, but I'm skeptical he ever develops into anything of substance. (Mark Anderson)
2015-01-15 18:00:00 (link to chat)Which under-the-radar Blue Jays prospect do you think will have a coming out party in 2015? Rowdy Tellez, Angel Perdomo, Dan Jansen, or Lane Thomas?
(Jay from Toronto)
Oh, one of my secret crushes, Angel Perdomo. I fully expect to see people talking about him extensively by this time next year. (Mark Anderson)
