DateQuestionAnswer
2014-07-09 15:00:00 (link to chat)What is your take on Dominic Smith?
(Smush Parker from Dubai)
Lots of hip drift. It's ok for the hips to move forward but it should be done before the foot hits the ground. His foot plants and he keeps drifting. I worry that move is so engrained in him that fixing it my introduce a host of other problems into his swing. (Ryan Parker)
2014-07-09 15:00:00 (link to chat)Doesn't Nick Franklin have the same hip problem as Dominic Smith?
(Frankie from Wichita)
The hip drift? Can you snag me a video of Nick because honestly I can't recall. (Ryan Parker)
2014-05-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)How high or low could you see Dominic Smith jumping or falling in the 101? Best case/worst case scenarios?
(Bruce from Rochester)
He was on the fringe of the 101 last year and that was with limited looks at him. I've seen him since and will fight harder for his inclusion. That said, I haven't seen him in game action during the regular season (all of my looks were during spring training) and the numbers have been unimpressive thus far. There's a lot of time to determine next year's rankings, and Smith can do a lot to move up or down in that time. I'll bet hes in the 101 next year. No idea where. (Jeff Moore)
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)Can Dominic Smith be in the top 101 next year and will Syndergaard be better in the long term compared to Zack Wheeler? Thanks and goodluck at BP!
(MetsFaithful5 from Syracuse)
I like Wheeler better than Syndergaard, which is more of a compliment to the former than an insult to the latter. I'm not a huge Smith guy. I want to see the power develop before I put a 1B prospect in the Top 100. (Ben Carsley)
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)Keith Law just released his top 100 prospect list... He has Dominic Smith rated number (37!). Now you guys did not have him in the top 100, but what's your take on Law's ranking of Smith?
(MetsFaithful5 from Syracuse )
I think it's too high, but Law's list isn't for fantasy. I don't get the Smith appeal. If he still looks like he can hit ok with 25 bombs in a few years, I'll add him as a Top 50 guy then. Bret is going to fire me. (Ben Carsley)
2014-01-17 10:00:00 (link to chat)Which 1B prospects do you like more and why out of CJ Cron, Dominic Smith and Matt Olson. Personally I like Cron for his power potential and low K%, I like his chances to find better pitches to swing at.
(MoenPDC from Boston MA)
I think Dom Smith has the best chance to hit, but I'm not really a fan of 1B prospects, especially ones that are on dimensional power bats with suspect hit tools. Dom Smith is more hard contact than power. I'd take that over Cron all day long. (Jason Parks)
2014-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)A few mets questions here, and good ones at that. Travis d'Arnaud: still on track to be an all star catcher? Is it possible Matt Harvey can come back throwing HARDER than before? And how soon do we see Dominic Smith in the top 100? Thanks!
(MetsFaithful5 from Syracuse )
The ceiling still remains at that level for d'Arnaud, but at some point you have to wonder if injuries aren't going to keep him from achieving that level. He's going to be a very good player, but the All-Star projection may not materialize because of the lack of durability.

I've always been a firm believer that TJ surgery survivors throwing harder after surgery is a myth.

With Smith, it all depends on the bat. He could force his way into that discussion next winter by posting impressive numbers with the scouting reports to back it up in 2014. (Mark Anderson)
2013-12-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Dominic Smith already the #1 ranked 1B prospect in the game? Potential 25/100?
(Mike from The Couch)
I don't see that kind of over-the-fence power from him. I like the bat, but I wouldn't take him over Singleton, even with Singleton's recent run of #slack. (Jason Parks)
2013-11-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you think is the 3rd best hitter from the draft? (I'm guessing you have Bryant and Frazier 1,2)
(Jake from Toledo)
Right now, it's a close race between Tim Anderson, J.P. Crawford and Dominic Smith. (Bret Sayre)
2013-11-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)How many Mets prospects are in the discussion for the top 100 Propsects ranking? And one player in the mets system that hasn't gotten the hype that Syndergaard and d'Arnaud did, but could be equally as successful?
(MetsFaithful5 from Upstate NY)
D'Arnaud and Syndergaard are Top 100 locks for me. There's probably a case to be made for someone like Rafael Montero, but I'm not sure I'm there with the argument yet. I don't think Dominic Smith cracks that level quite yet, but I do think he's the guy that could be the next big thing in that system. (Mark Anderson)
