|2016-06-20 16:00:00 (link to chat)||Who is the best team you have seen in your scouting life?|
(Larry from NC)
|I will preface this by saying that I have not been scouting for that long. I have probably been unaware of the talent of other teams while at games.
But I will say 2014 Myrtle Beach Pelicans. I did my summer internship down there and attended far too many games. Here are the major leaguers from that team: Joey Gallo, Cody Ege, Odubel Herrera, Hanser Alberto, Alexander Claudio, Keone Kela, Chi Chi Gonzalez, Andrew Faulkner, Abel De Los Santos.
While these guys are not in the big leagues yet, they will be soon: Nick Williams, Lewis Brinson, Chris Bostick, Jorge Alfaro, Ryan Cordell, Jose LeClerc, Samuel Wolff
And some other interesting guys with value: Preston Beck, Victor Payano, Kellin Deglan, Michael De Leon, Christopher Garia, Chad Bell
Man was that team loaded... (Steve Givarz)
|2016-04-19 12:00:00 (link to chat)||Any interesting under-the-radar prospects you see in the Rangers' loaded system this year? Was thinking Connor Sadzeck and his upper-90's gas could jump into consideration for a place on a mid-season prospect-ranking list or two if he can get his control under control. |
(Kristen from Canada)
|Sadzek definitely has a big arm, no doubt. He brings a high-velocity fastball from an extra-large, big-league frame. However, health, control, and the development of secondary pitches have been hurdles for him throughout his professional career.
I'm not saying these guys I'll list are superstars in the making, but I would throw out names like Sam Wolff (RHP), Drew Robinson (numerous positions in the infield), Ryan Cordell (maybe not an 'under the radar' guy at this point--outfielder), and Josh Morgan (infield, possibly catcher?) into the 'under the radar' mix as well.
The Rangers are an elite scouting and player development group. This is a system with plenty of players that you could like as a scout that aren't particularly known to the public. (Adam McInturff)
|2015-04-22 14:00:00 (link to chat)||Any word on Ryan Cordell? Mostly curious about his defense at SS. I see some errors, but am curious if there is enough there for him to stick at SS for a little while.|
(Akalhar from Injuryville)
|I haven't seen Cordell nor have I heard anything on him. Going to dig deeper on this one. Thanks. (CJ Wittmann)|

(Tex2045 from Augusta, GA)
|Love him as a hitter. He will take a bad swing or miss the barrel and the ball still comes off hard. Not a SS. I like the trial but he is a big dude who just doesn't have a feel for the spot. (Ryan Parker)|
|2014-09-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)||On a scale from dud to DUDE, where is Ryan Cordell? Are there any red flags with him? |
(Jay from PHX)
|I'd say that he's a lower-case dude, but he's a dude nonetheless. For the uninitiated, Cordell was popped by the Rangers in the 11th round of the 2013 draft out of Liberty University. He always intrigued area scouts with his raw tools but was never able to put it together in his three years in college. For context, as a junior hitting in a fairly mediocre conference, Cordell slashed .261/.310/.391. Fast forward to his first full season, and in 89 games between the Sally League and the Carolina League, the 22-year-old posted a .318/.385/.530 line. Cordell will flash all five tools with near top-of-the-charts athleticism. He's a plus runner and is decent in center field and an asset in the corners. When I saw him in July, he had a few susceptibilities at the plate due to a slightly long swing, but he did a good job of sending liners all around the field. I want to see how the bat plays against upper-level arms, as a 22-year-old beating up on pitchers in A-ball isn't particularly noteworthy in and of itself. I have him as a good role 4 player who can provide versatility in the outfield and some pop off the bench. It's a good little scouting find for the Rangers in the 11th round. (Ethan Purser)|

(MonkeyEpoxy from Amarillo)
|LOVE and that may be an understatement. Mazara oozes talent. I sat on a series last season when he was in Hickory. He plays with such confidence and the barrel skills are there. The raw power showed in BP and in-game, along with him making good reads and throws from the outfield. The promotion to AA at age 19 didn't surprised me a bit. Although, it did sadden me since I missed him coming to Myrtle Beach. (CJ Wittmann)|
No BP Roundtables have mentioned this guy.
