DateQuestionAnswer
2014-09-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Has there been any reason to hope that Colin Moran may develop enough power to be a role 55 or 60 guy at third?
(Mario66 from Pittsburgh)
He can hit a bit, but doesn't do much else on the diamond. Definitely some attitude concerns here, and the ceiling is probably Lonnie Chisenhall-esque. It's an empty 55-60 hit tool, and likely a second division regular.

All right, let's squeeze a few more questions in before I take off. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-08-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's up with Rio Ruiz now that Colin Moran has joined the Astros organization? I can envision a scenario where one gets traded or one moves to 1B, with Singleton moving to DH. But that is all just speculation.
(Wayne from Austin)
Moran will end up at 1B someday, but no one is moving anybody just yet. That stuff all works itself out. Look at Baez and the Cubs. They shifted him to 2B like two weeks ago and he's fine. People have been wanting to move players in that organization for the past two years but no one moved. They'll find a spot for everyone and so will the Astros. That's why the minor leagues are so deal. No need to even worry about it just yet. Just hope they all hit and figure it out later. (Jeff Moore)
2014-03-19 20:00:00 (link to chat)I'm reading less than enthusiastic reports on Colin Moran. Obviously you never want to argue with a major league regular, but the Marlins spent a high pick on him. Any chance he develops into a .300, 25 HR hitter?
(Freddie from Miami)
I'd be pretty surprised if he developed that power. The average could happen though. (Bret Sayre)
2014-02-26 19:00:00 (link to chat)Really appreciate the chat! Who are some guys you would target after the first 15 or so picks in a rookie draft(that includes international players). I have picks 17 and 18. Would you try to package them together to move up a bit? Thanks
(Mill from Lodi)
Assuming you mean rookie draft as in new signees to an established dynasty league I think outside of the top 6 guys:

Kris Bryant, Jose Abreu, Masahiro Tanaka, Clint Frazier, Jonathan Gray, Mark Appel

it gets really clogged in the middle. I would trade the lower picks to get into the top 6 because you're talking about guys like Colin Moran and Austin Meadows down there. It's ok, but not ideal. (Mauricio Rubio)
2013-11-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)If Colin Moran proves he can't handle third base, will he hit enough to play regularly at either first base or a corner outfield spot?
(Jim from Miami)
I think so, he looks like a legitimate big league hitter. Find a spot for him. (Harry Pavlidis)
2013-11-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Based on your AFL looks, has anything changed regarding Colin Moran's power potential or positional future?
(Mario66 from Pittsburgh)
I have not seen Moran live since UNC, so I'd be going off video. Based on that, and discussions I've had with folks who have seen him up close recently, my opinion hasn't changed -- above-average hit tool, fringy pop, solid but uninspiring defensive profile at third base. Solid regular. (Nick J. Faleris)
2013-09-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)Two questions about Colin Moran: Does he stick at third? Does he hit for power (say low 20s HRs)?
(Mario66 from Canada)
I wasn't convinced of his ability to stick at third when I saw him in college and on the Cape, but I'd give him every chance to do so because he's not really a prospect -- in my opinion -- if he moves off the position. If he sticks there, he can be a solid big leaguer. I think the low-20 home run range is about his power ceiling but he could get there as he finishes the maturation process. (Mark Anderson)
