Baseball Prospectus is proud to announce that author Beth Davies-Stofka has had her piece “Winning at the Cost of Silence” selected to be part of the The Best American Sports Writing 2019. Davies-Stofka has been writing for Baseball Prospectus’ Short Relief for close to two years.
Guest-edited by Esquire’s Charlie Pierce, “The latest volume in this first-rate series reflects not just the interests of guest-editor Pierce… but also, more pointedly, the social issues that have pushed their way into so many facets of American life…As ever, a must for the sports collection” per Booklist.
Davies-Stofka’s gut-wrenching, beautifully written essay is deserving of all the praise in the world, and we’re thrilled to see her recognized via her inclusion in The Best American Sports Writing 2019. It is unfortunately timely, given the subject matter is once again in the news.
This selection for The Best American Sports Writing is the first ever for Baseball Prospectus; a sign of the eloquence and bravery conveyed in Davies-Stofka’s words. We are so proud of Beth.
