  • Nationals SP Jordan Zimmermann became the National League's first eight-game winner after allowing two runs in seven innings.
  • Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick was tagged for five runs in five innings.
  • Nationals 2B Steve Lombardozzi went 3-for-4 with a two-run double.
  • Phillies 3B Michael Young was hitless in four at-bats and has just one RBI over his last 14 games.

(21-26) Padres  – 2 at 5 – Diamondbacks (27-21)

  • Diamondbacks SP Brandon McCarthy allowed one run in seven innings to win his second straight start.
  • Diamondbacks OF A.J. Pollock went 3-for-4 with an RBI from the leadoff spot.
  • Padres OF Carlos Quentin went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk in his return to the starting lineup.

  • Reds C Ryan Hanigan blasted a three-run homer.
  • Reds RP Aroldis Chapman allowed a couple of baserunners, but struck out the side in the ninth inning to preserve a three-run lead and earn his 11th save of the season.
  • Reds SP Bronson Arroyo turned in a quality start, allowing three runs on six hits over his six innings.
  • Cubs 3B Luis Valbuena had a decent night at the dish, going 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and RBI.
  • Cubs SP Scott Feldman turned in his worst outing of the season, allowing five runs on seven hits over his 5 1/3 innings.

(29-19) Pirates – 1 at 2 – Brewers (19-27)

(31-16) Cardinals – 7 at 0 – Dodgers (19-27) 
  • Cardinals SP Lance Lynn pitched six scoreless innings, striking out nine.
  • Dodgers SP Chris Capuano gave up six runs — five earned — in five innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals.
  • Cardinals 3B David Freese returned to action and connected on a two-run homer and an RBI double.
(27-21) Rockies – 5 at 0 – Giants (26-22)
  • Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood gave up no runs over six innings to win his third straight start.
  • Giants SP Tim Lincecum surrendered four runs in seven innings.
  • Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer delivered a two-run double and a homer in his return from the disabled list.
  • Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez went 2-for-4 while hitting his 12th homer of the season.

American League:

  • Rangers SP Justin Grimm went 6.1 innings for the win alllowing three runs and ten hits while striking out five.

  • Athletics OF Chris Young launched a go-ahead three-run homer in the ninth inning.

  • Athletics SP Tommy Milone yielded five runs over seven innings as part of a no-decision.
  • Astros SP Erik Bedard gave up two runs in five innings in a no-decision.

  • Angels C Chris Iannetta homered for the second consecutive game.

  • Cardinals SP Jake Wesbrook (elbow) played catch on flat ground on Friday.
  • Dodgers 3B Jerry Hairston Jr. (knee, groin) will begin his minor league rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday.
  • Rockies SP Jeff Francis (groin) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Friday.
  • Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt (groin) will throw a bullpen session to determine whether he'll be available for Friday night's contest against the Giants.
  • Marlins SP Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) will make his first minor league rehab start with High-A Jupiter on Saturday.
  • Brewers RP Chris Narveson (finger) will be stretched out as a starter when he begins a rehab assignment next week.
  • Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) played catch Thursday and will throw a bullpen session Saturday.

  • Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) will be re-evaluated next week after having his throwing program shut down on Friday due to pain in his right shoulder.

  • Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (fractured knuckle) will miss a minimum of four weeks.
  • Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) felt great after taking batting practice on the field before Friday's game, saying that his wrist wasn't an issue at all.
